Should the NFL have a hard salary cap?

I've always hated the cap.

Still do.

Especially one that gets soaked up after 4 players...

I hate that good drafting causes you to have cap problems. Petulant stars on a shit team can go wherever somebody is dumb enough to pay them.

But if you draft well and everybody likes everybody there should be cap exceptions. The ability to keep a team together.

A good hired gun doesn't hurt but drafting a guy is better.

Then let those players go...

Baseball doesn't have a cap. As much as I don't like the cap I agree NFL is better than NBAs cap. Maybe the NFL can just do like MLB and introduce a Luxury Tax.
The lack of a salary cap would be bad for the NFL. Why get rid of parity?

Why should you have to let good players you drafted go somewhere else?

If those players are signing those exorbitant contracts that you claim handicap your team, then they've handicapped that team.

Teams have to be smarter with the salary cap. Good teams like Pittsburgh and Green Bay build primarily through the draft and seem to always be under the cap. Free agency is the biggest problem.

Only under a cap.

Kill the cap for players you drafted yourself and then you can choose to pay or not.

Then you can choose to pursue other teams free agents or not.

Or don't kill the cap...and maintain a level of parity fans find acceptable.

Teams do this with a salary cap in place.

The biggest problem is guaranteed contracts.
