You're saying the WRs aren't better than last year?

CJ would bring a shitty attitude and little production. He's perfect.

How are the receivers better? As Rey said, we had Hawk and Green last year. The only real change has been Binns for Simpson. After 5 games last season Simpson had 5 catches for 242.... After 5 games this season Binns has had 5 for 198.

Aside from just saying we're better 'just because,' what are you basing it on?

You know who else was a beast in college and never quit on a play? Ron Dayne.

You must have not watched the same Ron Dayne as I did.... The guy was lazy and unmotivated at times. The Bearcats benefited from it as we upset them when they were highly rated. The dude had a lot of question marks coming out of college - Even with all the production.

More question marks than Cedric Peerman?

I guess we have more talent at receiver, we just don't use it.... which is odd.

What would this game look like tonight if the Jets had Sanu and Jones. For craps sake.
anyhow... fr is basically right even if folks disagree on the details, the production hasn't been there out of the Binns/Tate platoon.

If Peerman gets more opportunities, he needs to capitalize. Its not that he hasn't had any opportunity at all here. he has, but doing good in a few preseason games doesn't really prove his worth if he can't do it in a real game.

Yup...typically there were no plays to make. That being said we need a guy that poses a threat opposite AJ. I think Binns has done some good things but we need to see more of Marvin Jones on the field.

Damned right we do....Jones and Sanu both need more snaps immediately....Binns is serviceable but limited......Sanu as far as I can tell has delivered 6 points per play.....

Hawkins is actually playing and making plays, so Hawkins '12>Simpson '11. Green '12 > Green '12 just from experience. Binns >Caldwell. Shipley didn't play last year. Tate has made a couple of nice plays. I'd say they're much better overall.

Well that's one twisted way to look at it.

Green '12 > Green '11
Hawkins '12 > Hawkins '11

The above would hold true no matter what, whether we had resigned Simpson or not.

Because people were telling us the PERSONELL this year was better than the PERSONELL last year, the only real comparison left is between Binns and Simpson.

And it really isn't even as close as the stats might indicate. Binns has had one very good play this season and that's it. And at least Simpson was a respectable downfield threat, which Binns is not.

Heck, I might even argue Green and Hawkins '12 > Green and Hawkins '11 because Simpson would open the field up better.

Not to mention the fact that Binns WAS on our team last year..... We didn't upgrade or change anything. Well, I suppose we DID draft a few guys, but it's not like we use them.

Did I miss something somewhere where the bengals board is obligated to start threads with the most retarded topics conceivable? Chris Johnson?? OP, have you even watched football outside of the bengals for the last 2 years? The guy has sucked balls on and off the field. There are easily 25 RBs in the NFL that would be an upgrade, and you choose him??

To be fair though, their argument was based on the fact that Binns would be Simpson's replacement (and would be an improvement). Had Simpson still been on the roster, Binns wouldn't have had this opportunity.

Hasn't worked so far.

What is sad to me is Simpson totally sucked, yet we haven't managed to upgrade his position. I believe the players are there to do it (Jones and Sanu) but with Marvin running the show it'll be mid 2014 before we find out. I never have been a fan of Binns, and I'm not saying he's done a bad job. He's just limited.

You have to look at it in terms of what is asked of them.
2011
Green was #1, Simpson #2, Caldwell #3, with Gresham technically 2nd in catches and 3rd in yards.
2012
Green is #1 and even better than last year. Hawkins is the #2, Binns 3rd, and Gresham 2nd in catches and 3rd in yards.

Green this year is better than Green last year.
Hawkins as the 2nd option is more reliable and explosive than Simpson
Binns is far better than Caldwell
Gresham is about the same.

This WR corps is more reliable and more dynamic than last year's and it's not really that close. You can't compare Hawkins of last year to Hawkins of this year since he barely saw the field last year. As the 2nd option so far, Hawkins vs Simpson is the proper comparison. Hawkins is better.

Let me simplify it for you:

Did you say Binns/Tate would be better than Simpson, and therefore we improved the position?

If you did, you were wrong.

Last year, Hawkins was the slot receiver. This year he is the slot receiver. If we had a more competent receiver (Simpson) opposite of Green instead of Binns, it would make everyone else's job easier. Hawkins would be more open than he is now and hence EVEN BETTER than we're seeing. Trickle down effect.

As a UNIT, this team would be better with Simpson than with Binns.

Simpson sucks less than Binns IMO. It sickens me to agree with Rey, though.

T.O., Chad Johnson, and even Plaxico Burress would be upgrades at this point too. I'm shocked they're all without jobs.

I'd bring Johnson back. I think it would ignite this team and the city.

We screwed up Johnson by letting him do whatever the hell he wanted here and not trading him when we should have, so I actually agree with kramer there a little, even though I think he's joking, and I actually think platooning sanu and jones at #2 would work better.

....

Also, Simpson is worse this year, I hear he's their "deep threat" ... m'kay... they found out he was dumb as a box of rocks and they don't know what to do with him.

Sanu and Jones need to play. Period. End of story. I guarantee you this offense will grow substantially with those two rotating at the #2. As far as Chris Johnson goes.... Hell....fucking....no. Nothing would induce vomiting more than giving up anything to bring in that gutless poor attitude piece of trash
