Should the Bengals trade for Chris Johnson?

If the Bengals are serious about contending for a Championship they need to field an NFL caliber running attack. At least, the bare minimum, they need a competent run game capable of offering balance to Andy Dalton and A.j. Green and unfortunately the current crop of running-backs on the roster are incapable of providing the athleticism, durability or skill sets necessary to accomplish that goal. Today's lost to the Dolphins is a stark reminder why being able to run the ball is so important because without the threat of a ground game teams will drop 6 to 7 men into coverage making passing lanes almost non-existent. With the bounty from the Carson Palmer trade the Bengals have the picks necessary to pursue the Titan's disgruntled running-back if they wished to do so. And I believe the move would be beneficial to both parties as it would provide the Bengals with an elite runner at a reasonable price while providing Chris Johnson the new start his career needs.

I'd rather trade for Larry Johnson. I believe he just raped a woman or some such.

At this point I want to see what Peerman can do...or Herron. If the Bengals would've drafted Alfred Morris he'd probably be riding the pine or on the practice squad...time to see what (if anything) they have.

They have to do something.....the phins shut the run down with only 7 in the box, allowing them to play two deep and take away the downfield pass.....everyone is wondering why Dalton didn't throw it downfield, it's because there simply wasn't anything there.....our ol was totally whipped by Miami's dl......

Chris Johnson got his money and quit.

We do need a better RB. I questioned BJGE from the word go. I think Peerman needs a long look.

All that aside,Miami has a great defense.

Peerman stinks. There is no reason to look. There is a reason he was drafted where he was.

And Alfred Morris would probably sit the bench a lot I places because he probably just isn't that good. Let's not forget whose offense that is and how many crappy crappy backs he turned into 1000 yard rushers.

Don't care for CJ. I wouldn't mind giving Peerman a look. I'd prefer a back that is very shifty or can maul people AND one that can catch out of the backfield, the latter being the most important.

I agree that CJ2K got his money and quit.

Peerman needs a look, if for no other reason, so we can decide what to do with him. Having a 4th RB (now 3rd) around just because he makes a few special teams highlights to me seems kind of a waste. He was probably already better than B. Scott at the beginning of the season. He hasn't been very successful with the opportunities he's had running with the first team though, so I'm not that optimistic.

he's good. he's a load with quick feet and dood instincts. That's why SHanahan is playing him. Peerman...I don't know. He's got that compact RB thing going on. I wouldn't mind giving the guy a look. I mean, he can't possibly be more ineffective then BJGE? Can he? I'd also point out that the Fins D is pretty damned good...and Faine did play poorly yesterday.

Yup...typically there were no plays to make. That being said we need a guy that poses a threat opposite AJ. I think Binns has done some good things but we need to see more of Marvin Jones on the field.

I'm just glad that the Firm has been such a major upgrade.

Can we do free-agency over?

Why would we want to? We had an A+ FA.

We "upgraded" the RB position.
We "upgraded" the CB position.
We "upgraded" the WR position via addition by subtraction.
We upgraded the G position - though this one is still legit.

You're saying the WRs aren't better than last year?

CJ would bring a shitty attitude and little production. He's perfect.

Wrong. Watching Cedric Peerman @ UVa for 4 years, he is a beast and NEVER quits on a play. He will make the most of every opportunity.

You know who else was a beast in college and never quit on a play? Ron Dayne.

Green is still Green.
Hawkins is still Hawkins.
Binns and Tate have not brought to the table what Simpson did. But they are better than Caldwell, but too bad they aren't playing the 4th receiver as Caldwell did or would have.

So, no, I do not see an improvement at WR.
