I agree 82 games is way too many.

If my math is right you could play every team in your conference twice and every team out of conference once in 41 games.

You don’t play yourself, so there are 14 other Conference teams twice = 28 plus the other 15 teams once = 43.

43.

There's no doubt the NBA season is about 10 games too long but so what? Also, the owners will never throw that money away so this debate is about as useful as debating if the U.S. should annex Canada.

Maybe 10-12 games too long but I've seen 43 and 50 games season suggested on here lol.

I'm good with the length of the season. Gives me something to watch until June

They wouldn’t lower prices for fewer games. They wouldn’t pay the players less for fewer games and they wouldn’t stop resting players if they had fewer games.

I like statistics so I like being able to compare the 82 game seasons to 82 game seasons. Of course, after a while, there would be enough of any other number of game seasons, but I’m used to it.

ok educate me why guys need that long for a bruise. Or what there is a need for 162 games.
I'm an avid mlb fan and have no idea why you keep referencing these fake injuries that just don't happen.

The mlb is the only game with the nuance of anything like pitching. A different guy every five games plus different bullpen arms. You could argue that nuance needs more time to separate the best overall teams. Regardless of how anyone feels about that argument, the mlb regular season means something. The nba regular season is pretty close to pointless. If your argument is that the mlb has the most games, then you are correct.

I mean, it will never happen because of money,

but if the NBA went to a 70 game season and MLB went to a 144 game season, I think both sports would benefit.

That way we are not playing World Series games in the snow in November and we are not starting the NBA season in mid-October and ending it in mid-June.

The baseball regular season meant something until they added the stupid wild cards, not anymore.
Actually it means more now. Win the division if you want to have a good chance. Settle for the wildcard if you want to risk it all on one game. Plus, this heavily rewards the team with the best record in the league instead of putting them into a five game series with a likely red hot wildcard team equally rested with their best pitcher on the mound.

If anything, the first round needs to be shortened. The Bucks and Raptors should not need to win four games in order to prove they are better than the Magic or Heat.

Problem with shortening the MLB season by that much is that it would cheapen individual output. Less 100-RBI campaigns. I wrote in a blog post last fall that I would be in favor of a 156-game MLB season...

yah winning the division means more than ever now since you avoid that 1 game do-or-die game

yah 6 games is more realistic than getting rid of 18 games, but if you got rid of 18 games you could actually start the season in spring and finish the world series in fall.

as a person that has personally been to Opening Day games that were eventually snowed-out, and World Series games whre you are freezing your balls off, it would be nice if the season could start towards the end of April and by the 3/4th week of October.

I agree that one great thing about basbeall is comparing the numbers over generations and cutting the games down would destroy that.

I remember in the strike-shortened 144 game season Albert Belle went for 50 homers and 50 doubles. INSANE. And he did not even win MVP because the media hated him and the media kissed Mo Vaughn's ass. One of the biggest robberies in sports MVP history if you ask me.
