Gainfully employed...so good.

Well, that's great to hear - I've been lucky enough to land a pretty good contract here in Burnaby which has been extended until the end of November, so career-wise, 2011 has been good for me as well.

I know it 's not this simple, but to put it into perspective:

$7,500,000.00 / (82 Games * 60 Minutes per Game)= $1,524.39 per minute.

Damn, I told Dad to keep me in hockey, but money was kind of scarce...

Stamkos got 7.5 & he was picked 1st overall. Doughty was taken 2nd overall in the same draft class. So my thinking is 6.5 to 7 million.

Stamkos' signing has absolutely nothing to do with what Doughty will get.

First of all, what position in the draft you were taken has absolutely nothing to do with any contract after your initial Entry level deal.

Second, Stamkos is a forward not a D-man, he won't even be brought up by either side for a comparison while they negotiate with each other.

I do however agree with the amount that you stated, I think he will get $6.5-$7 million, but based on comparable salaries across the league of his peers, ie Defensemen.

I don't think either side, the Kings or Doughty are stuck on money as far as the contract negotiations are going. I believe it to be a case of Doughty wanting a short contract with a NTC so he knows two things going forward,

1) He will remain on a team that is going to be competing for the stanley cup, and not be traded to a bubble team or a non-contender.

2) He will be a UFA with a chance to cash in again at or around his prime.

The kings on the other hand are looking for a long term deal without a NTC. They want to lock him up for a while, and still have the option to move him in the future if the necessity arises. I believe this is the point the two sides are arguing over now, contract length and the inclusion of a NTC.

Somebody did the math for Derek Boogaard (RIP) last season and based on TOI, he was making $4700 per minute.

I wonder how Trevor Gillies is doing. He gets about 10 seconds followed by a penalty each time.

Probably better to measure him in $ minute in the penalty box.

Shea was awarded 7.5 mill.

For that salary he'd better be playing goalie, too.

Highest award ever given out in arbitration.

I wonder if there are any offers on the table for a trade. There are a few teams that can afford him, but no contenders really come to mind.
