Seriously though, if Weber isn't in NSH, how do they get to the cap floor?

That's a good point and it may almost force the Preds to sign him.

i think someone on here brought this up earlier, but they have almost half of what they'd have to pay weber in year 1, in room under the floor right now.. so you'd think they'd have enough to match no problem.. but why haven't they yet? why wouldn't you match an offer to your best player (top 10 player in the league) instantly, if you had the money?

Who all gets rated higher than Bryz in the league? Rinne, Quick, Lundvqist, Brodeur, Smith, maybe Luongo? That's still pretty good company to be in if he's on pace with Fleury (homer pick), Lehtonen (sp?), Neuvirth, etc.

21st in GAA and 33rd in Save%

i think the best bet would be for Philly to somehow hire Dave Tippett so he can fix this system goalie

/very good read btw

Is Dave Tippett responsible for the rise of Mike Smith and the fall of Ilya Bryzgalov? | Edmonton Journal

in my opinion. and Im not going on games played as to what I see as just being better goalies and in no order

Quick
Thomas
Luongo
Schneider
Halak
Smith
Fleury
Kiprusoff
Rinne
Price
Backstrom
Miller

I could rank Bryz middle of the league. he reminds me ALOT of Dan Cloutier in how his career is and his mentality with less injuries. Dan was bat shit in the head. outside Hockey helluva guy but just didnt have the mental fortitude for that position same what I think of Bryz.

That's a really good point. Now that I think about it, Philly probably has the perfect group of players to run Tippet's system, even without Weber.

After going through so many goalies, I reached the realization that the goaltending problems in Philly aren't just on the goalies. They used how many of them now since Hextall's been gone? Even the great John Vanbiesbrouck couldn't fix it.

This obviously wasn't meant to have a goalie debate, but I think it's safe to say that he's good enough for this team. I felt dumb in forgetting Howard and BAckstrom in the earlier post. :L

and if its not because of Tippetts coaching (as that article i linked suggests), Philly should be checking in with goalie coach and former flyer Sean Burke

/although i dont know how he feels about Philly these days ... ie one of Burkes best quotes was:

" 2 best days of my life ... the day i was traded to Philly and the day I was traded by Philly "

So, if Poile had states he'll match any offer sheet, why is he taking time to review it? If he was going to match any offer sheet, he would simply match it.

We're talking about a LOT of money, and I'm pretty sure he has to review this with his owner...and it's been about, what, 12 hours? I realize you guys want to read into it, so go for it, but I think I'd take a day or so to review this. He does have a week.

Oh I want to read into it. This will go down to the wire, and the next 7 days are going to be Hell. Need to pass the time somehow :D

Well, looks like 540,000,000 bottles will have them set until July 1st, 2013. :)

slightly unorthodox but hey ... Id like to see the Preds do it lol

Nashville should take the picks, and then trade players to Philly's division rivals (Rinne to PIT!) so Flyers finish lower and picks rise

This also makes me wonder how long Rinne is in for. Will he follow the same route as his captain and alternate captain?
read on the tweets last night, someone compared it to Rinne being the first one of a group of friends to pay cover to go to the bar they were going to meet at, and then both his friends called and changed their minds.
well, it made me chuckle.
Yeah.....they just HAVE to match. I freakin hate it, but I def think there is no way that they don't.

Then Homer trades Cooter and 2 1st's for Weber and we are back here again. :)
as others have mentioned, the Preds wouldn't be able to trade him for a year, at which time they are basically financially committed.

Jason Botchford saying Preds will match and will keep him as a Pred for life ... wonder if Shea is happy with that??? ... could get ugly starting next summer

given the first year payout requirements, here come the revival of "to vancouver for less!"
in arbitration, the Preds used Yandle and Byfuglien as comparables. Not sure who else was out there, but that's still an insult to Shae :)

Also, that contract...ummmmm...is that breaking any NHL rules? Just curious, because that sounds like it has quite a drop off in salary.
as a basic rule, the drop off in any year can't be more than "half of the initial year's pay"

Thats why this league is headed for trouble again. I said it two years after the lockout.

What was the cap when they came back? 38 - 39 mil?. It has exploded since then and the number of teams in smaller markets will suffer. It WILL happen. These contracts are getting crazy again.
you know the cap is too high to be effective when Philly can afford an offersheet like this after:
- retarded $5.7m contract for Bryzgalov
- $5m per year mistake of a contract to Pronger
- paying Kimmo freakin Timmonen $6m+
- paying Danny freakin Briere $6.5+
- they are paying Jody Shelley more than $1m, for crying out loud

that team should be in cap hell after an accumulation of deals like that.

that would make a splash

i think someone on here brought this up earlier, but they have almost half of what they'd have to pay weber in year 1, in room under the floor right now.. so you'd think they'd have enough to match no problem.. but why haven't they yet? why wouldn't you match an offer to your best player (top 10 player in the league) instantly, if you had the money?
by not answering for a full week, the lock up the Flyers from RFAing anyone else for that duration (you can't commit your picks to two diff't teams at the same time). A minor point, but still a little 'fuck you' back at them.

but yeah, there no fucking way the preds don't match this. It's a big number, but over the life of the contract, not a bad cap hit for him.

Worst case scenario for me: Weber stays in Nashville for the rest of his career (which means he will NOT be in Pittsburgh or New York). That ain't all that bad.

So say the Preds dont match, does it go out until the 7th day with no action or do they have an option of saying halfway through the week that they wont match?

My guess is that they can say at any time whether they are in or out.
