Dreger has jumped on that and said the arbitration process and critique from that hearing (along with the $4.5 million offer) have spoiled the player/team relationship ... idk ... I agree with Botchford though ... its equally possible that if they match, he'll be a Pred for life

It will just be interesting to see how solid the relationship truly is. Only public statement Weber made was that he wants the team to compete for the cup

I think we'll get a clue if Preds match and strip him of the captaincy

Yeah, I kind of feel like we are projecting his attitude right now.

Why is he disgruntled. I don't really see Philly any closer to a title than Nashville.

Nashville has been trying to trade him, and then Philly throws him an offer sheet which he signs (Weber could have declined). If Nashville matches, they cannot trade him for 1 year, but they might be forced to after the year expires for financial reasons. As jstew said, it could be a tough year in Nashville for Weber and Preds management if the Preds decide to match.

kinda makes me think I WANT him to stay in Nashville and have them struggle forever :D

My friend is wondering if he will now have a Weber Surcharge in his Comcast bill hidden somewhere.

and Ill continue because everybody seems to be on the other side of this

his actions during the past season acting on behalf of the Preds franchise (texting Radulov all season long to get him to come back) would tend to show he had no hard feelings after the arb hearing ... not to mention he seemed just as shocked as Poile when Suter walked

For people who have followed me on twitter and read my articles for the last year, you probably noticed several themes present throughout my writing. The themes were usually Cody Hodgson, Mark Mancari, or Shea Weber based. As we saw last year, Cody Hodgson was traded, and so I lost one of my fun narratives. This off-season Mancari signed with Buffalo ending number two of my narratives. So of course, since bad things seem to happen in threes, it was just a matter of time until my third narrative, that of Shea Weber, was crushed before my very eyes, ground up into a smoothie made of shattered dreams and bitter tears, and forced down my throat while the Hockey Gods laughed at me.

So what does this mean?

- It means money talks. People were speculating that Weber would want to cash in on a long term big money contract before the new CBA potentially limited the amount of years you could have on a contract. It appears those people were correct.

- Nashville now has 7 days to match or decline the offer

- If Nashville matches the offer, they can’t trade Weber for a year. Once that year is up, get ready for the speculation to start again about how Weber signed the offer sheet to try and get out of Nashville and that he wants out.

- If Nashville declines, they will get four first rounders. None of which will likely be Shea Weber.

- Shane O’Brien will be at a bar tomorrow either way

i dont think there's any way weber signs that contract if he's not comfortable playing in nashville.. the only way that could be the case is that if him and poile already agreed that he wouldn't be a predator this coming season, one way or another

he's already signed the contract (offer sheet) ... Preds just have to match now and he's a Pred ... and he knew that when he signed the offer sheet, so he must be comfortable in the idea of being a Pred for life

Larry Brooks ‏@NYP_Brooksie
It is the obligation of every team to use CBA to its advantage. Oh, except for Toronto because Brian Burke doesn't believe in it.

LOL

True or false: Shea Weber=Jeremy Lin?

Makes Sergei Fedorov's offer sheet in '98 look like chump change now.

Although he got about $26 mil for playing less than half a season that year.

I realize it is a business, but I do feel sorry for Nashville if they feel they can't match due to financial reasons. In my opinion, they have done a fine job building a competitive team the right way through the draft and shrewd trades.

the thing is.. i think they could be alright.. they have a good crop of prospects on D, a decent group of forwards, and a great goalie.. if they get a couple roster players from the flyers, they'll be competitive again in a year or two i think.. they could basically go from stanley cup contender, to on the way up the hill of the rebuilding process, all in one summer.. rather than suffering for a couple years at rock bottom of the rebuilding process

i think its going to end up being a trade, and the flyers will give up two 1sts and either coburn+couturier or the schenn bros.. both of which would be very sad, BUT, its shea weber.

Yep. After that first year the rest of the contract was a bargain; 2 mil a year.

Reasons NSH will sign him:
1) 4 First rounders isn't nearly enough
2) A trade would garner a much larger return
3) He's their captain
4) They JUST lost Suter, think they'll sit by and watch Weber walk away?
5) They're about 14M from the floor...they NEED this contract.
6) Because I can't stand the idea of Weber in Philly...nope. Nadda.

man it must feel so great to be a fan of a franchise like Detroit. I know the lean years of early Yzerman were tough but the last 15 years have been fucking spectacular. they have been run SO well in that time

Also, that contract...ummmmm...is that breaking any NHL rules? Just curious, because that sounds like it has quite a drop off in salary.
