even with Weber I dont think Philly is the class of the league. They are a VERY good team but Bryz is the mental cow on the farm and there are no cattle grids. that mind could just wander away any time during the playoffs.

Also, that contract...ummmmm...is that breaking any NHL rules? Just curious, because that sounds like it has quite a drop off in salary.

The contract is fine (it only bends the spirit of cap circumvention)

Agreed, it strengthens a strength for them, IMO.

Hah, so in reality you can only circumvent the salary cap if the contract stops before 40? That...that makes plenty of sense.

Thats why this league is headed for trouble again. I said it two years after the lockout.

What was the cap when they came back? 38 - 39 mil?. It has exploded since then and the number of teams in smaller markets will suffer. It WILL happen. These contracts are getting crazy again.

Here's my call on the whole deal...No matter what, somebody is gonna be bitching about dollars somewhere down the road (not Weber). BUT, that meathead is a good fit for either team and one of the two fanbases will be ultimately happy for years to come. (barring injury)

Preds will issue a statement today. Team is fully evaluating situation, but, Preds have previously indicated plan to match any offer sheet.

We are in receipt of the offer sheet signed between the Philadelphia Flyers and Shea Weber. Under the rules pertaining to an offer sheet, the Predators have one week to decide whether to match or accept the compensation. We have stated previously that, should a team enter into an offer sheet with Shea, our intention would be to match and retain Shea. Our ownership has provided us with the necessary resources to build a Stanley Cup-winning team. Due to the complexity of the offer sheet, we will take the appropriate time to review and evaluate it and all of its ramifications in order to make the best decision for the Predators in both the short and long-term.

Who all gets rated higher than Bryz in the league? Rinne, Quick, Lundvqist, Brodeur, Smith, maybe Luongo? That's still pretty good company to be in if he's on pace with Fleury (homer pick), Lehtonen (sp?), Neuvirth, etc.

That's how the Sabres got nailed with Vaneks contract. The team said they would match any offer and Kevin Lowe made sure they had a big one to match. I'm not sure a team should ever say that. The fans will expect you to sign the player no matter what the offer is.

Seriously though, if Weber isn't in NSH, how do they get to the cap floor?

21st in GAA and 33rd in Save%

i think the best bet would be for Philly to somehow hire Dave Tippett so he can fix this system goalie

/very good read btw
