I'm mocking a notoriously terrible "source" from twitter. Him and HockeyyInsiders get butt hurt all the time about Dreger/Mirtle calling them out.
Ah, I see.

Even if the Preds don't want to pay up the entirety of that contract though...they have to get more in return. Losing him for late first rounders? Not enough. Just not enough.
Probably not, but it's now four late first rounders and the $26 million they'd save not paying for the first year versus the trade return and his services for a year. To a small market team, that cash is not a small consideration.
Heck, they could trade him to Philly in a year and get a ton more in return. I guess if I were an owner I'd see this as a must do thing. Gosh I kinda feel bad for their fanbase. They have a pretty good following, but this team could be dismantled pretty quickly.

Maybe, but $27 million for one season and then you trade the player is a pretty tough pill to swallow. I mean, you might be better off saving the $27 million and taking the four first round picks.
Edit: What jstew said above (lol)
This is why Homer is a genius.
I really cant see the Preds matching
I can
they match and commit to him
/the problem is does he commit to them

Ed Snider is the BEST OWNER in professional sports.
As for Nashville, Poile won't be making this decision. It will be up to ownership. They know how much this is going to cost in terms of money. I think they should match it because of the reprucssions if they don't. We're going to find out how important winning is in Nashville. We're going to find out if the Predators can play with the big boys.
This offer sheet has two components to me. First and foremost, it's a large market team wielding it's muscle - almost thumbing down their noses at Nashville - if there wasn't revenue sharing, where would we be? Current CBA implications - this is why large market teams don't like revenue sharing very much. The other thing this reminds me of is the NBA and the soft salary cap. If these large market teams like to do things like this, then they pay a luxury tax which is revenue sharing essentially. I hope the NHL doesn't approach this as it leaves the elite few and the mediocre rest and the really shitty couple of perrenial cellar dwellers in small markets.
I agree with the bold in so much as Ed Snider is so close to Bettman (as his broadcasting partner) and wields enormous power in shaping the next cba ... ie are they operating and have they structured this deal with insider information of what owners will be heading towards next season and beyond.
Also the poison pill aspect of the signing bonuses ... Snider most likely gained or had access to insider information on Preds financial foundation through BOG meetings ... did the organization use this in shaping the structure of the deal?
What's the other option? Sit out for a year? My impression is that matching an offer sheet blocks the players choice.
