Nah, that would be boring, too.

This just seems overblown is all.

Nashville likely matches, so I think this is a lot of much ado about nothing. If they don't, Philly is paying an obscene amount of money for a defense that still isn't near the top and loses 4 1st round picks. Even if they are near the bottom, that is a big deal, despite everyone acting like it isn't. Even if you don't get a 1st line center, you get EL contracts for good players and that is very important to your cap.

Philly is in win now mode with a young team. Losing 4 1st round picks isn't going to hurt them much. If they want a 1st round pick they always seem to find a way to get one.

historical perspective lol

Scott Stevens’ “astronomical” offer sheet in 1990: Four years, $5.1 million. Not $5.1 million a year. $5.1 million. Times change.

He would still clear the same if he was in his prime now. Right, Shanny?

It's true. I'm not sure what else they need to win the Presidents trophy, but they're looking like front-runners to me.

This just sounds like sour grapes to me.

Five reasons why Poile shouldn't accept picks: Trevor Halverson, Sergei Gonchar, Brendan Witt, Alexander Kharlamov, and Mika Elomo.

You do realize if the Preds match Holmgren could say good for you David we're moving on. If you want to trade him call somebody else.

That's actually what I'd expect. Nashville would probably care more about active players than picks, and I don't think Homer wants to do that.

and the Preds will have Weber signed at a 7 mill cap hit and 14 years to correct any hardships that may exist in the player/team relationship

Honestly, the more I think about it, Holmgren has really put the Preds over a barrel. My initial gut reaction is that they have to match the offer sheet, but without knowing their current financial situation (and future plans for Weber down the road), it is a tough call.
word was that they were telling Suter they had a huge offer for him, Weber, AND were going to make a push for Parise.
so the dough is apparently there.
no more of this bs about trade him after a year, 2 or even 3 with all this signing bonus money ... no way that happens
except to Van, for less.
The Preds blew it by electing the one year arbitration last offseason - they gambled and now Philly is going to make sure they lose - either the player or a good chunk of the ownership's cash.
yeah, they balked at 3 years at $7.5m and set these wheels in motion.
Sucks for Smashville, but the owners/GM let two of their three main pieces get to free agency.
how do you risk that so shortly after saving the franchise with that ticket drive?

Why? I don't want the Caps to get Shea Weber. And I don't care if Philly gets him.

calling a defense of

timonen.weber
coburn.grossmann
meszaros.schenn

not near the top of the league is probably untrue.

He may mean that Giroux kid's two-way game. What a bust...

That's Nashville's problem. Poile was butt hurt when Suter signed with Minny. He should be very happy about this because Philly did all the work for him. All the Preds have to do is match the offer & they get Weber long term.

they could have been gambling with that money though.. with suter, weber, rinne, AND parise, the preds look like a cup favorite, which rakes in a lot of playoff revenue, plus the increase in support a deep run creates.. with all 4 of them locked up for a long time, it would be just a matter of time before nashville was no longer a small market.. with just weber and rinne the argument for playoff contender is just as valid as the argument for cup contender

He's probably mad because his team makes crappy deals...like giving Mike Green over $6 mill a year.

The Flyers had a mediocre defense and a fantastic offense last year, no? So losing Carle and adding Weber doesn't skyrocket them up the league ladder, does it?

I probably like Carle a lot more than most Philly fans though. I don't think there is anything special about that group though aside from Weber. Timonen is old. Coburn and Meszaros are overrated/overpaid. Brayden Schenn could be great, but still young and learning. Just my opinion.

youre not seeing my point and youre talking in circles

Its not a horribly irreparable "problem" to have

a stud dman locked in for 14 years with a 7 mill cap hit ... and he's not gonna walk away ... and he's gonna keep playing for your team

it will take some work ... but they can solve any issues Weber may have with the preds franchise
