He's probably mad because his team makes crappy deals...like giving Mike Green over $6 mill a year.

lol.. he's probably not, elo is a good fan.. i trust he has no desire to add shea weber for the price

and 4 first rounders is a lot to give up.. especially for the flyers who could really use some prospects..

this basically ensure's that the flyers are at least 6 years away from getting another guy on a giroux-like contract out-performing the shit out of it and saving the team from cap hell.. this is definitely a win now move from the flyers, because in 3 or 4 years they will be in cap hell.. hartnell, giroux, briere, timonen, schenn, schenn, couturier, simmonds, and read will have have contracts up in the next 3 or 4 years.. and aside from timonen and briere, they will all need big raises.. the flyers cant afford all that, and they wont have guys on EL contracts that can actually play the top 6 minutes well

The Flyers had a mediocre defense and a fantastic offense last year, no? So losing Carle and adding Weber doesn't skyrocket them up the league ladder, does it?

I probably like Carle a lot more than most Philly fans though. I don't think there is anything special about that group though aside from Weber. Timonen is old. Coburn and Meszaros are overrated/overpaid. Brayden Schenn could be great, but still young and learning. Just my opinion.

But what about Luke Schenn?

Lol. Yes, I'm very mad. You pegged me. Last year, my team traded away it's offensive core only to see those guys team up and win a Cup somewhere else. It was frustrating.

up...no....my bad, that was your team.

I like the Green deal personally. I'm excited about our team and our direction.

youre not seeing my point and youre talking in circles

Its not a horribly irreparable "problem" to have

a stud dman locked in for 14 years with a 7 mill cap hit ... and he's not gonna walk away ... and he's gonna keep playing for your team

it will take some work ... but they can solve any issues Weber may have with the preds franchise

You missed my point. I think Nashville should match it & keep him. We'll find out if the Predators ownership is willing to do so in 7 days.

i liked carle a lot too.. but its not just carle out, weber in.. schenn is new too, and meszaros was hurt for half the season last year.. so its carle out, weber, schenn, and meszaros in..

the flyers defense sucked because for most of the season they had 2 of lilja, manning, gustafson, or bourdon playing (and for about half the season if the puck changed direction at all, bryz couldnt stop it)

and you didnt see enough of coburn after the grossmann trade if you think he's overrated/overpaid.. he was a force.

Those trades were excellent for the Flyers. They are sitting in a much better position going forward than the Caps. Who is their coach now, btw?

Weber would replace Pronger nicely.

then what the hell is the comment below about? Who cares if the Flyers walk when/if Preds match ... theres 28 other teams in the league who would want to trade for Weber

You do realize if the Preds match Holmgren could say good for you David we're moving on. If you want to trade him call somebody else.

Alright, we can keep going back and forth, but this isn't what the thread is about, so I'm just gonna let it go b/c I really don't give a fuck. I don't know what the Caps have to do with any of this. You disagree with my opinion/estimation of Philly. That's fine.

Pretty sure our coach is Hall & Oates. Wait, I might have the wrong Oates.

I wonder if the next CBA includes some terms about front-loading contracts? The whole idea of a cap system was to put the smaller-market teams on even footing. But by paying massive amounts up front, you're essentially paying quite a bit more to the player (inflation, interest, etc...) and putting short-term cash-strapped teams at a disadvantage.

Might it truly be time to say that a player's salary must match his cap hit for every year of the deal? Would eliminate a lot of the 'cap circumvention' type deals we keep seeing, and this issue with the Flyers/Preds.

Fair enough. Good points (as always), awaz. Of the bunch, I'm very high on Carle and very low on Mez, but my viewings of them are more limited than yours obviously.

I completely agree. All teams are guilty of it.

Do you think Weber will be easy to trade with the amount of money he will earn in the 1st year & what Nashville will want in return? I don't. He won't come cheap that's for sure.

In this thread it was stated that Dreger said Nashville wanted Couturier & Brayden Schenn in the deal. No wonder Holmgren said no & gave Weber the offersheet. I don't think many teams can afford to give up TWO young high end top 6 forwards from their roster plus something else. It would be just like the Nash situation.

Definitely a problem. I think it's reasonable the players would want some more money upfront and fair to contract for that, but I think they need a percentage rule. They take the average amount (the cap hit) of the total contract divided by the years and any one year is allowed to be no more than 20% above or below that average. That gives the players a chance to get money upfront and protects the small markets/owners from themselves.
