I know Weber's agent has said that he "wouldn't sign the deal if he didn't want to play for that team", and I believe that obviously, but I also think by signing this he's saying he's okay being in Nashville. He's no fool. He knows that NSH can match the offer...so I doubt he'd be all pouty about it.

If they trade him on July 1st next year the aquiring team would be responsible for that years signing bonus. I can see the Preds and Poile forking out $14m for one year to get a much better return. Especially with how far the Preds need to go to get to the cap floor.

Good point. He'd definitely get moved by the deadline, maybe for Nash, haha.

There's a defenseman on the Flames that could help the Preds get to the cap floor (6.68 million dollars worth of help)

Selling point: You don't even have to like us to be captain!

It makes you wonder how much work Weber's agent did behind the scenes crafting this scenario to aid his client. I mean, maybe he put the bug in Holmgren's ear and they worked out the financials together with Snider.

That's correct. I thought it was the begining of the NHL calander year (July 1st) but he couldn't be traded until one year from when Nashville exercises it's Right of First Refusal.

So i go back to the question i asked last night in this thread

Whats the timing of the second year 13 mill signing bonus?

Is it paid/payable july 1 or the day he is allowed to be traded by the preds

Regardless, the team seeking to acquire would just wait for the preds to pay the second bonus or reduce their trade offerings, no?

There is no specific rule in the CBA governing when signing bonuses are paid. That stipulation is agreed to in the contract. Most of the time July 1st is the agreed upon date as it's the start of the new NHL year.

Oh I want to read into it. This will go down to the wire, and the next 7 days are going to be Hell. Need to pass the time somehow :D

Well, looks like 540,000,000 bottles will have them set until July 1st, 2013. :)

Maybe only 270,000,000 bottles and cans if they take them to Michigan. :noidea:

So the Preds are screwed if they keep him for the trade because it surpasses the deadline and screwed if they let him go? Kind of a dick move by Homer, but I understand that it's a business decision.

It basically means if the Preds match they won't trade him until after the 2nd year of the contract.

If the rumors are accurate that he wants out of Nashville signing this offersheet was the dumbest move he could make. Nashville has the means and motive to match. On top of everything any NTC/NMC clause negotiated into the contract between Philly and Weber will not apply to Nashville should they match. Poile will be free to trade him to whom ever he can get the best return from.

I hope that he likes Philly then. It sounds like the Preds would be wise to move on with their picks.

To make one more point, why would the Preds lock someone like this up if they don't want to be there?

Cmon_WTF, correct me if I am wrong. But don't NSH and Weber re-negotiate on trade clauses if they match? If that is that case, I am sure Weber could hold out for an NMC

Nashville has the option to honor or dismiss all non-financial clauses negotiated into the offersheet. They have the option to negotiate with the player/player agent on the clauses already contained in the contract but it is not required. Neither party can add new terms or conditions not already stipulated. The only thing Nashville is bound to are the financial terms of the contract.

it would make absolutely no sense for the preds to sign him if they plan on trading him.. if finances are a problem, which they apparently are, why would they pay 25% of a 110 million dollar contract, for 8% of the contract duration.. that's exactly what you dont wanna do, financially.

That would depend on what Poile believes he can recieve via trade as opposed to the four late 1st round picks from Philly. I don't believe financials are as big of an issue in Nashville as they used to be. Especially after they signed a soon to be 30 year old goalie for $7m a year. Weber is a franchise dman who can be moved for assets much more significant that what they will recieve from the offer sheet.
