this basically ensure's that the flyers are at least 6 years away from getting another guy on a giroux-like contract out-performing the shit out of it and saving the team from cap hell.. this is definitely a win now move from the flyers, because in 3 or 4 years they will be in cap hell.. hartnell, giroux, briere, timonen, schenn, schenn, couturier, simmonds, and read will have have contracts up in the next 3 or 4 years.. and aside from timonen and briere, they will all need big raises.. the flyers cant afford all that, and they wont have guys on EL contracts that can actually play the top 6 minutes well
Definitely a problem. I think it's reasonable the players would want some more money upfront and fair to contract for that, but I think they need a percentage rule. They take the average amount (the cap hit) of the total contract divided by the years and any one year is allowed to be no more than 20% above or below that average. That gives the players a chance to get money upfront and protects the small markets/owners from themselves.
Oh, and yes, this is partly what I was talking about with paying a lot to the defense with offensive contracts coming up and fewer 1st round EL softies to help the load. It's just that Awaz says it better than me... it gets blocked up in my mouth parts and I don't say it no goods.
(rep if you know the show that last line comes from)

I'd like for it to be one-to-one each year. For example, if Crosby makes $20m this year, that should be his hit. It would avoid the demand for these ridiculous terms and upfront money. Players and owners, to me, would be much more careful.
To go back to that Crosby analogy, he would then have to accept that his team will suck that year. The teams with the better scouts would prevail over the teams with the biggest bank. If each team is able to afford the cap ceiling, then game on. The parody would be much better.
Sunny.
Nice one.
Raped!
Damn auto-fill.

Down goes Brown would have better material?
Do you think Weber will be easy to trade with the amount of money he will earn in the 1st year & what Nashville will want in return? I don't. He won't come cheap that's for sure.
In this thread it was stated that Dreger said Nashville wanted Couturier & Brayden Schenn in the deal. No wonder Holmgren said no & gave Weber the offersheet. I don't think many teams can afford to give up TWO young high end top 6 forwards from their roster plus something else. It would be just like the Nash situation.
They can't trade Webber in the first year if they match. And when they are able to trade him, 26 (or is it 27) million has already been paid.

Well, I'm glad Jeremiah finally made an appearance in this thread.
