One roadblock you forgot to mention that is holding the Rams back - Jeff Fisher.

The Rams did what a lot of people has suggested and I'm not sure how you can describe it as fast amd loose. There is a common belief that he way to win is to build through the draft, acquire good young talent amd you can have success even witout a good QB. It showed once again how foolish this strategy is, which of course is why I was onboard with the RGIII trade up.

Here are the QBs playing last week

Brady
Rodgers
Newton
Roth
Wilson
Palmer
Peyton
Smith

See a pattern? This happens nearly every January.

The problem was not trading up for RG3... It was how much we gave to get there. It is hard to put a team in place when you spent so much on a question mark. Results...our 4th round QB out performed him and we could have had three more firsts and, was it one or two seconds?

You are missing the point. Point is if you have a good QB you can overcome holes on the roster and can go much further year after year than if you don't. Again we see this pattern every January which I why I thought it was worth the gamble to try to get one of those guys even with such a high price tag.

If Griffin had turned out to be as good as say Big Ben he would have more than overcome the shortfalls of not having those picks, especially considering half bust anyway. Obviously it didn't work and again Griff is a different type of player than Ben. But I'm talking about the entire thought process of doing what you can to try to get a top QB.

The problem with this example in particular is, Griffin WAS not a top QB. Top athlete yes, QB.. debatable. The reason he didnt come out the year before in 2011 was that he was viewed as a guy who played QB, but would be better suited as a WR. He lacked then, and still apparently lacks now, some of the key fundamentals of playing the position at an NFL level. I would say had they tried to make him into a traditional passer his rookie year, he comes no where close to Rookie of the year status.

Bottom line is, it was a boom or bust move from jump. If it worked, we had found a guy to move forward with and the cost might have been worth it in the end.

It failed, cost us two seasons, and we are likely to get nothing in return aside from the 2012 Division title.

Many folks, included our current GM, had Griffin rated very highly as a QB. GMSM specifically said he loved the way he threw the deep ball. It didn't work out, hey that happens, and they all knew it was a risk. But the fact is he was considered an elite QB prospect, one of the best to come out in years.

Add him to a long list of guys that every one raved on but ultimately ended up as mistakes. It was a mistake then, and proved out to be so.

Disagree. Sometimes you have to hit rock bottom before taking the necessary steps for success. All of the mistakes that include the trade for RG3 brought the Redskins to their current pt to include the hiring of SM which ultimately could lead to major long term success.

Nobody is arguing that. The draft is full of misses. I've simply been arguing the idea of trading what it takes to try to get a real franchise changing player. And I agree with the idea, it just didn't work but I applaud my team for daring to be great.

Clearly the GM/HC wasn't all in on Griffin or he wouldn't have drafted Cousins 3 rounds later. Just a random point. Nothing to do with SM. I think it says a lot about who wanted to make the pick in the 1st place.

That's not true. Shanny was all in on Griffin, I do believe the version where he took the trade possibility to Allen/Snyder after he spoke with his buddy Jeff Fisher. He took Cousins because he had him rated 2 rounds earlier and he just couldn't pass up the value.

Don't think that is right. Accounts I read said he was intrigued by Griffin, but was against the trade.

Agree but it also says a lot about the org structure at the time and the HC/pseudo GM. Thankfully this has been corrected to a major degree w/ the current FO.

As I have posted several times you cannot make someone a HC/GM nor give the HC major personnel powers. It just doesn't work & is the reason why I would never want want any ex-SB winning coach as a HC (they also want additional personnel power). Secondly - if Shanahan truly bowed downed to Snyder in this case then this also reflects poorly on him.

I want a "my way or the highway" type GM & I believe that SM fits that mold. I realize that is tough to find with the Redskins reputation & w/ a lot of $$ being waved in someone's face, but I think that goal is attainable & believe that it applies to the current GM.

I am not in favor of a GM/HC either. Hell as much as I love Joe Gibbs I didn't want him shopping for the groceries and if we knew the full story I am not sure he was. Mostly I was referring to the awful trade and then selection of Griffin. Don't think Shanahan believed in him either or he wouldn't have drafted Cousins. From most "rumored" reports he was not in favor of the McNubb trade either.

Clearly looking back Snyder/Allen had too much influence in Griffin's career here. With SM they were able to install a better QB and relative harmony became the norm in the locker room. A lot of that had to do with SM bringing in guys to lead in that direction. I think we all hope that continues.

Just my two cents here. In a recent interview, Shanny stated or strongly intimated that he was against the RGIII trade. That's different than saying that he also thought RGIII wouldn't be a good QB, but he did say that it was a Bruce Allen / Snyder call to pull off the trade. Obviously, due to Shanny's bitter falling out with Bruce and Danny, you've got to take what he says here with a grain of salt.

But you've got to think there's some merit to Shanny's account when he took Cousins with the fourth round pick. There were also reports that he would've taken Russell Wilson if he'd been available when they took Cousins and that he thought Cousins was a far more NFL-ready QB than was a RGIII.

I didn't realize that RGIII didn't have a playbook in Baylor until sometime after he was drafted. Aside from wondering how that's even possible when playing football at that type of level, that should've been a red flag.

I disagree on Shanny not being all in. I think he was looking at Cousins to potentially showcase for a game or two and then Scott Mitchell him. But even if he wasn't in on the Griffin deal, so? He's still the same ass clown who traded 2 draft picks for Donnie McDirtball in 2010 and hired Jim Haslett.

And for all Shanny's talk about Cousins having top tier QB skills. Why didn't he put Cuz in sooner in the Seahawk playoff game? Maybe its was cuz he's was a lyin ass rat-face bastard who tried to paint himself in the best light whenever possible.

Clearly you do not have a love affair with Shanahan. If you read what I posted rumors over the years were that he didn't want McNabb. That too was a Snyder/Allen deal.

I think the post saying maybe he should have grown a pair like Gruden did is the most appropriate. Remember the post Griffin surgery where Allen and Dan the Man were waiting for Griffin to wake up while Shanahan was no where to be found. dad calls this CSI but I think it speaks volumes as to what was going on. Again, he should have stood up to Dan. I may not be right but I don't think I am far off.

Heh. Really eh. I've never heard that before. Next it'll be Snyder and Allen made Shanny hire his son and Haslett as well. Just more coal for the Mike Shanahan is a "triflin lyin ass bitch" fire.

Odd how there's no mention of it, ever, being Snyder and Allen's deal when peeps were ridin Shanny's jock over the McNabb deal.

Mike Shanahan and Donovan McNabb trade: Did Josh McDaniels get schooled by the Mastermind?

He has no problem taking the credit for Cuz though does he. He can miss me with that "saw a potential top 10 QB in Cuz" bullshit as well though. Methinks if Shanny felt that highly about Cousins. He'd of sat Griff down for Cousins much sooner in the Seattle playoff game than he did as after Griff hurt himself. Griffin and the Skins offense was full on garbage from that point on, didn't come close to scoring another point, but Shanny with this potential stud in waiting in Cousins, doesn't put Cuz in? Please, this is the same mothafucker that made Terrell Davis go into the game during a migraine headache episode. If Shanny thought Cuz had that kinda ballin in him. He'd of sat Griffin's ass immediately and put Cuz in.

Shanny's a lotta things..........................being scared or a coward aren't among those things imo. And scared of Synder for what? This is the deal he signed with the Redskins. On January 5, 2010, Shanahan was formally introduced as the Redskins' 24th full-time head coach. As part of the deal, he was also named vice president of football operations, with the final say on football matters. He was one of several coaches who also had the title or powers of general manager, along with Bill Billichick and others.[9] Shanahan was signed to a five-year, $35 million contract.[10] Several months earlier, Bruce Allen was named the team's general manager. Shanahan and Allen split the duties held by a general manager, with Shanahan having the final say.[11] This model is similar to how Belichick and Scott Pioli worked during their eight years in New England.

But now we're supposed to believe Shanny let Snyder and Allen run his program over the most important position on the team. Not once, but twice.......................uh huh OK.. Fuck Shanny and his lyin vindictive ass

my philosophy since the ESPN days is you dont give up that many picks for one guy , you build up other areas of the team , then find your guy .

i supported the hell out of 3 sus but in the end his head wasnt on straight
