So, time to bump this up. The kid from my hometown Malik Monk is now playing with the Wildcats. With him, Fox, Adebajo, and the rest.. I can't see them losing much in the SEC. I watched this kid play in high school and he is just sick... not just skills but genetics as well. Never seen someone jump and hang so smoothly since Jordan. And can shoot from 35 ft also.

I am a die hard gator.... but would be lying if I didn't admit I was excited about watching the Cats this year.

Although everyone likes watching him dunk, he can shoot the lights out as well. Wouldn't be shocked if he averaged over 20+ this year even with a loaded Cat team.

You haven't seen him play. Dude is fucking is sick, especially when he gets hot from 3. he's clutch too, he's hit more than one game winning shot in hs. even did it in back to back games last season as a junior. his shot is pure and high arching with a high release point. silky smooth handles. electric, effortless athleticism. One thing people don't seem to talk about, he's a really smooth passer and is so unselfish. He's one of those players that can affect the game in so many ways, and his scoring ability is elite. his one weakness is defense. Losing him to kentucky really hurts, he's once in a generation talent, you will see come basketball season.He will likely have a 50 pt game this season, especially if the cats have a cold shooting night and need someone to bail them out.

It's really weird seeing two players from Arkansas on the preseason all-SEC teams that don't play for Arkansas.

Hoping we show a lot of improvement this year, team is a lot deeper than they were last year. With how our recruiting classes for the next few years are lining up things are looking bright with a good year this year

Monk is an insane athlete, one of 4 guys on the team with 40"+ verticals. PG is as fast as John Wall, and we have 5-6 guys 6'9" or better. I don't know if it's gonna be a great team yet, but it's him a be fun to watch

That would be impressive to say the least. MJ didn't even average 20 PPG as a junior and only 13 PPG as a Freshmen. Right now he is avg 13 PPG with bad shooting % and against pathetic teams. If he gets to just 15 ppg that would be a significant accomplishment.

Did you watch last night vs. Mich State? He had 23 and I still don't think he shot well AND there were times he was standing wide open and Fox would take a bad shot. I am telling you this kid can score in bunches. He had 59 pts against the best freshmen in the nation over the summer. And yes, he shot poorly vs. bad teams... and sat out most of the half in one of them due to fouls. But last night is a better example when his teammates just can't do layups... and have to rely on him for scoring. He also will get more time in competitive games. So you can't compare games vs. low tier teams.. because Fox and company just drive the to hole and do layups... that was much harder last night which is why you saw Monk score 40% of their points through the tough stretch of the game.

However, I will say the problem I see for him early on is the following:
- There are a lot of ball hogs on the team taking bad shots early (Fox particularly will drive and miss when Monk is standing wide open).
- Monk can slash and score, but for the first three games Calipari seems to have him staying outside and just looking for jump shots. That is the most frustrating thing to watch as he can get his shot off on just about anyone, but he isn't look to drive as much so far.

The reality is if Monk played for any college team outside the top 5, he would score much more because there wouldn't be as many options. So his avg is up to 16.3 after last night... I bet he falls between 15-20 for the year given his teammates. I do think he will have a few games where he goes off and scores 40+ this season. But Kentucky just isn't a good perimeter shooting team outside Monk... so it should be interesting and I could be wrong.

Keep in mind also, MJ was the best player on that team by far. This UK team honestly has 3-4 guys you can argue are all equal. Fox is by far one of the best PG and on-ball defenders in the nation. Monk is the #1 shooting guard hands down. And if Adebajo can stay out of foul trouble, he is one of the top centers.

MJ had a bunch of roll players on that team. Which is good and bad. Good in the fact that Jordan got most of the looks. Bad in the fact that they could double team him regularly as they did and make someone else score. So I could see that argument either way.

I would bet he has more than one 40 pt game... and possibly gets a 50+ if he goes off. UK is just a terrible outside shooting team. They are going to live off defense and speed of transition.

The problem is for him will be if UK is blowing people out, he will get less time and Calipari won't run up the score with his starters (yes, I can already see some idiot posting how they scored 140 vs. some lowly team this year to contradict my "running the score up" comment... but keep in mind when UK ran that score up, it wasn't with his starters in most of the 2nd half.. he had his 2nd and 3rd squads in..even his son).

I like what i've seen so far. I think we can play with anyone in the country. Provided we don't drop the ball in non con, expect to see us ranked heading into league play. Unfortunately, league play is front loaded for us.

vs Florida
@Tennessee
@Kentucky
vs Miss St
vs Mizzou
@ TAMU

If Miss St turns out to be trash, we get two pretty easy games before facing A&M, who doesn't look very good this season.

Ole Miss with a great opportunity tonight for the SEC(outside of Kentucky) to get a signature non conference win. Play 22nd ranked Creighton in the Paradise Jam Final. 8:30 on CBSSN. First one to 100 wins?

Tenn hasn't looked good this year. I don't think they are an issue. Mizz is one of the worst teams in the SEC. Miss St is meh... lots of mediocre teams in the SEC this year. Florida, TAMU, and Ark look to be in a group behind Kentucky.. then there is everyone else.

I retract my projection of Monk averaging over 20 for UK. Has nothing to do with his ability or talent. He could easily avg 20+. However, UK is blowing people out so when he is playing less than half the game with a group of ball hogs... averaging 15+ is still good. Imagine if he had to play 35+ mins vs. the 20 mins in these blowout wins. Sure he plays a lot in the tough games, but the way UK is playing, and how weak the SEC is this year... I anticipate a ton of blowouts all year long. Get ready to see a lot of Calipari's kid playing...

I was wondering if there were any Arkansas fans on the CBB forum. Looks like you and @arkansas89 and that's it?

Eh, not so fast. Michigan State win looked impressive, but Michigan St has lost to every good team they've played, and nearly lost the other day to Florida Gulf Coast. Michigan St is looking pretty overrated and flawed honestly. Even the Arizona team they faced has serious flaws and problems. At this point, i think its safe to say UK still hasn't played anyone yet.
