Ok ok ok, enough talking about balls lets start taking a look at the matchup...

Gronk presents a huge advantage for ne vs basically everyone. How will seattle match up

Last year Seattle eliminated Jimmy Graham and Vernon Davis from the 5 games they played. This year VD was a fraction of his old self so his performance didn't really need to be discussed. But also earlier this year Gates tore up seattle.

KJ Wright is a long linebacker that played man to man against Graham, Also Kam Chancellor is the SS who also was billed with stopping the te's.

this matchup could be a huge differentiator.

You can't completely shut down a healthy Gronk. Your best bet is to limit him. Wright and Kam can do that. However, Gronk split out wide against Maxwell is a lock for five to seven yards on the slant. How does Seattle counter that? Sacrifice pass rush by dropping an end into the passing lane and give Brady time to find his second or third option?

The chess match should be fun.

No offense at all..... I agree.

But I also think that graham is a bit more athletic, less physical obviously. in fact I think grahams soft. But we eliminated him all together. If they can play anywhere near that level vs gronk, seattles in good shape

I say we let Gronk and Beast mode starting running towards each other at full speed from 40 yards apart and see if the resulting collision creates a black hole or reverses time.

Agreed that this will be a big matchup.
My guess is that we will limit his production. We are well known to play vanilla D expecting that our players will outperform the competition. BB knows how we play. We are very predictable in that regard.
Yet Pete is a sharp one too. He may change it up and scheme a little more than usual. He knows that might surprise our opponent in the match. Heck, when was the last time Pete called for a fake FG?

If there is any team equipped to defend Gronk, it's the Hawks.

In 3 0f their 4 losses they gave up a TD to a TE
vs SD Gates had 3:suds:

Gronk is soft, the kid can't stay healthy. Cut him everytime he touches the ball... Navy football style.

Pay too much attention to Gronk and some other Pats player will score his first TD of his career. If you don't pay enough attention to Gronk, he catches for 130 yds and 3 TDs.

Its one of the keys to the game. But the Seahawks over their body of work this season are very good at defending TEs. Kam and our LBs are up for the challenge.

Green Bay, The Jets, Minny, Buffalo and Detroit all kept Gronk out of the endzone this year. If they can do it I'm confident the Hawks D can also. Even if they can hold him to one score I'll consider it a win for our secondary and linebackers.

Most defenses don't have a guy like Kam lurking around .... Seattle has enough talent on D to not have to focus on anyone in particular .... They line up and challenge you ...

Eh Seattle did a pretty decent job of it in 2012 (6 receptions, 61 yards). I wouldn't say that's shutting down, but that was before Seattle's D was as good as it is now. Most of those guys on our team were fairly new/inexperienced in the NFL. Seattle's D now is FAR superior to what it was in 2012 in all aspects.

Not saying Seattle will shut down Gronk, but it's certainly possible.

The key to shutting down Gronk is to get to Brady. Do that and it doesn't matter how good Gronk is.

It's a good matchup. Seattle D has enough talent to do a good enough job on Gronk. It's not like he gets 150 yards every game or anything. By the same token, he's certainly talented enough to put his stamp on the game's outcome.

I just hope we get to see an open field show-down between him and Kam.

Julius Thomas was the closest thing to Gronk the Seahawks have faced and they did OK shutting him down. But, I have to say I think Gronk is playing his best ball now. He's going to give me nightmares for another 11 days.....at least.
