Man our guys are worthless. None get claimed for free...lol.

Yea they were so big in him just a few years ago. I could tell just watching his stuff on a few televised outings that his pitches just did not have enough movement on them for him to be effective at the big league level. And he never reached that top end speed that can over come some of your pitches coming in straight as a string.

He got his shot in the show and never really ran with it. His delivery just never looked smooth to me either. Kinda herky jerky vs fluid and smooth.
But I guess there have been many a big arm in the show that had some truly herky jerky deliveries.

Us giving up Paxton to NYY and we got Sheffield and a couple other arms really made you scratch your head.

Hope he catches fire and helps the big club. I just don't see it happening anytime soon.

I am guessing Dipoto didn't put this list together.

A lot of true stud SS's around the league. We have a good shortstop with a good glove. I like JP Crawford, he plays like he is having fun out there.
Just wish he would have fun batting .270 and hitting 20 bombs :)

That is exactly what it sounded like. And the two guys on the show were so giddy having him. But there were a few interesting things if you can believe the guy.
Yeah, Cody has gotten intolerable on his ball licking of Jerry. At least all of the other guys in town who have defended Jerry can admit he should’ve done more. I’ll take a listen later.

All the Yankees fans said his ceiling was a lefty specialist out of the pen, and also said Montero wouldn’t cut it in the long run but we were sold they would be. By all indications both suffered from caring more about eating than becoming stud pro ball players.

I remember when we got him there was a theory that showed 6' and under SP's were extremely unlikely to make it big. They said the last was ex-Mariner Hampton. I argued with a Mariner guy at the time and he claimed BS. Maybe it is, but yet here we are again. Everything you described was in the article. Size per the article helps with movement because of arm angle and such. We will never know if that is true, but I would stay away form these guys.

We have a good Mariners SS. An average MLB SS. I think he was rated 18th in defense for SS's last year which is his calling card. But he is lovable so...

ESPN's Lineup Rankings:

7. Seattle Mariners

1. Julio Rodriguez (CF, R)

2. Ty France (1B, R)

3. Eugenio Suarez (3B, R)

4. Teoscar Hernandez (RF, R)

5. Kolten Wong (2B, L)

6. Cal Raleigh (C, S)

7. J.P. Crawford (SS, L)

8. AJ Pollock (DH, R)

9. Jarred Kelenic (LF, L).

Park-neutral runs: 799

Best traits: speed, long ball, gap-to-gap, patience | Worst traits: contact

It has been a whirlwind for roster watchers in Seattle. Mitch Haniger, Jesse Winker, Adam Frazier, Carlos Santana and Kyle Lewis are out. Hernandez, Wong and Pollock are in.

The end result looks good, though you'd still like to see fewer strikeouts in the lineup. There's a good mix of power and speed or players, like Rodriguez, who feature both. The addition of Hernandez only adds to the raw power in the order, with him, J-Rod, Suarez and Raleigh all projecting in the 90th percentile or better in isolated power.

France is a hitter with decent power, good strike zone command and excellent contact ability, a skill set that helps balance the lineup.

I just do not like France batting in the top 5 in the line up.

I agree w/ the article that France has 'decent power' - but I do not agree on the good strike zone command or excellent contact ability.
He is a slug on the basepaths and should hit in the 6 hole. Would love for him to prove me wrong and extend his hot '22 season start into at least the summer this year. When he fizzled around late spring last season he just never looked like the same hitter to me.

I guess from it depends on which range shows up. When he was hitting .330, he deserves the middle of the order position. But if we are talking the .275 version, oh heck no. 6th would be about right for that guy. I want more speed at the top with Teoscar and JRod knocking them in.

What..happens early..in the season..is often..not what happens by the end..
France..did not have the luxury..
Of
La stella..
Or
Haniger .for most..of the season.
.
It will not be...the same story...again..
