I really don't understand why.
Saints have the #1 offense and two good receivers outside of Cooks in Snead and Thomas. Could argue Thomas is more valuable since he hauls in quite a few more receptions per target. While Snead gets the big yardage, I'd rather have a higher reception per target given it keeps the chains moving and your defense off the field.
The Saints will certainly take a bit of a hit offensively without Cooks but I imagine they'll still be top 10 easily (if not top 5).
What the Saints need to address is that horrid defense that seemed to never get back on track after Lynch ran over 9 of their defenders... which was about the last time I heard "WHO DAT?" because everyone knew who the Saints were then.
This is a defensive draft, and they may even have a shot to grab a QB with the late 1st/early 2nd to finally get a successor to Brees. They'll be able to focus entirely on D-Line, secondary and potentially QB with their first 3 EARLY picks, and then can focus on grabbing additional help in the linebacker and possibly guard positions (more helpful for Brees since he's shorter) with those 3rds.
One thing the Saints have lacked in recent years is a solid # of draft picks to actually BUILD up their roster.
2015 was quite a bit, but outside of that the last 5 or so years have been laughably light.
Not sure what Payton has to do with this. Last I check he is not the GM.
I feel a little better about the deal. I just hope the Saints don't screw up these 3 draft picks we have in the first 42 picks
Payton has been running the show, Mickey is only numbers.

We signed Warford, a guard. That's taken care of. A top 10 offense with a HC who claims to be a offensive guru? No top ten is not good enough.
Don't always agree with you Shark, but do on this issue.I was just throwing out something. I HIGHLY doubt losing Cooks will make that offense go from #1 to #10... that's unless Brees heavily regresses in which case Cooks isn't going to save you anyway.
You literally could've SUBTRACTED Cooks' entire stat line from last season assuming the production went NOWHERE else and you still would've been top 12... and Brees is too good a QB for that to happen.
The #1 offense isn't helping you guys regardless, when you sport one of the worst defenses in the leagues. Cooks isn't going to help that either.
Be down about it all you want. As a Hawks fan with the Saints in my teams' conference, I would've preferred the Saints keeping Cooks and throwing 5 years $65M at him while they were at it.
I'm not mad about losing Cooks. Thomas is better than him and Snead is good as well. Also picked up Ginn who can stretch the field with his speed just as Cooks did.
I feel like we had a better offer from Tennessee a few days ago if those reports were accurate.

Wow, didn't have to give up Butler to get this kid?
Could be that BB won't end up retaining Malcolm's services when it is all said and done, but for now I'm happy.
I read an article on yahoo regarding someone saying something about Sherman beginning to decline. I don't think you can really say what you would prefer when your seahawks get lit up by a Lombardiless team and it appears they're a ways away from getting back to NFC dominance. No replacement for Beastmode and trying to utilize a offense that doesn't work.
Well that #1 offense looked like crap week 13 against Detroit. So the offense has not really been at its best. And if the saints get their wish with McCaffery and he turns out to be the Sproles replacement then the offense with Cooks would have been better than last year.
I didn't listen to any sports radio today so I'm out of the loop. Any word on what might be coming back our way in that deal?
Nope. No real offers I've seen. Just a tweet from Schefter saying they may still consider a trade for Butler later on. Guess we'll see
I hope he stays. He is a damn good cover corner, a sure tackler and a feisty kid.
Yea exactly. It is exactly why I wanted us to do the Cooks for Butler deal instead of this. CB is one of our weakness positions. Would have been nice to get a solid cover corner like Butler.
