I really like Scherff but I think it's awful early to make that call on Williams. He was surrounded by other vets like Mo Wilkerson, Sheldon Richardson, and Damon Harrison taking up a lot of the slack for him. Maybe he'll blossom when one of those guys or maybe more leave in FA this year.

But I also couldn't care less about Williams. Scherff filled a huge need and he's doing really well for us. This would be more of an issue if Scherff was tanking.

Your most talented O-lineman can play any position on the line. Just remember that. And dont shit a brick if we actually come up with another starting caliber Guard, and Scherff gets moved back to RT based on talent.

Doesnt matter dude. We should have KNOWN we had the greatest RT on the planet which meant Scherff was an over reach. Hell if he wasnt drafted at #5 over all, he wouldnt have even started at guard. We missed out on the greatest defensive line talent in the last 14 months to draft a guard.

I have no problem with scherff over Williams but this is just an odd post to me. I think there's a case for Williams being just as good as scherff this year and more importantly it's been a year. Who really cares. We got a solid player and it looks like the jets did too.

Sometimes I just don't understand how dean is not employed on someone's NFL scout staff as a GM. You speak in such absolutes dean. Really I do think it is great that you have so much fun doing this. You lose a lot of credibility though when you want to give guys you like 33 years to develop and call guys who aren't starters bums if they don't succeed in game 1 at the position you deep the position they should be in.

Regardless how Williams turns out, and I think he'll be a better than decent player. I'm happy with B Scherff. The Skins were extremely weak up the middle of the OL and he went a good deal to improving that. I only expect him to get better.

We all pretty much knew Scherff would play well this year at guard. That was never the argument against the pick.

I totally agree with this & similar replies in this thread. The draft is not about making the best pick in that round or having a better early round pick than some other team. It is also not about the team missing the chance to draft a later round guy that later starred for some other team.

The draft is about retaining most of your picks & acquiring & developing players who will thrive in your own system. The Redskins did a very good job in that area last offseason & there is no reason to believe that this won't be the norm for the foreseeable future. HTTR

Exactly. No one was disputing that Scherff would do well. The issues were taking him as a guard so high and the corresponding value in taking him at #5. However, there's a related -- and very significant -- factor of worth: despite all of the just-mentioned issues, is he worth taking at that spot? So far, yes he was.

As for Williams, I wish him the best. I will say, however, that it's a bit too early to see how he'll end up. But I'm very happy with Scherff. Between him and Morgan Moses, we've got one of the best (young) RG-RT tandems in the league.

Well KC didn't produce until year 4...glad you didn't cut him.

Moses didn't produce until year 2...you would have given him 8 years.

Murphy has produced in bot years and you want him cut. That is why you are a hypocrite.

Murphy did not produce this year that is why his playing time got cut for Smith. I was always a fan of KC and why would I cut the backup QB at the time. Moses has produced more for this team than Murphy and was coming off an Lisfranc injury.

How am I a hypocrite if the guys I wanted in previous drafts are producing better than Long and Murphy. What if we bring in another pass rusher besides Galette this year. Do you really think Murphy is going to see the field?

Murphy and Long started most of the year. You just discount that. I agree P Smith had a great last three games as far as rushing the QBs go, he still has some learning to do in the run game. On more than one occasion he crashed down only to have the opposing RB go to the area he just vacated. It is all part of the learning process.

Competition is part of the game. It doesn't matter to me if Long gets beat out by a better player at some point. That should always be the goal is to bring in better and better talent and try.

You keep saying Scherff was a bad draft pick. If he ends up being a starting guard for 8 - 10 years how is that a bad draft pick? They just didn't draft the guy YOU wanted.
