Giving Darnold a 3 year $100M contract with $50M guaranteed means we can watch him see ghosts this year and move on after the fact, and hopefully draft a QB in the 2nd or 3rd with now 2 picks in both. And Darnold is going to be a glorified game manager handing off the ball 24/7 and using playaction. Kubiak is not running a system that relies on a QB being elite. All while getting our D top 10 (which is what Macs job was to begin with).

It's a bridge QB... exactly what Seattle wanted to make Geno again, and Geno wants to be paid like a top 10 starter.

I'd rather us get the ghost seeing guy for what we did than give Geno some 4 year $180M ($120M guaranteed) contract or give DK that dumbass 5 year $150M contract the Steelers are about to do.

JSN is good but they gotta get a #2 receiver now.

After a season with Geno smith you will be screaming for Sam Darnold.

Hawks can use a quick passing game to limit pressure, Geno doesnt know what a quick passing game is.

I'm good with the signing. It's only a 3 year deal. If he's able to at least come close to what he did for the first 16 games last year...great. Maybe he can be the QB for a few years and the Seahawks can shore up the talent around him.

If he plays more like the last 2 games of the season...they can draft a guy to develop or maybe trade for a better QB.

Exactly and as I posted above...if the ghosts are gone and he can play like a starting quality QB, we're good for a few years since he's only 27.

And as you mentioned...if Casper and his friends are still bugging him...it's an easy deal to move on from him or draft someone and Sam can be the backup.

It's a low risk/potentially high reward signing, imo.

Geno was ok...but he's been a career backup for a reason. But if he was wanting a big contract as @Sharkonabicycle said...then he needed to go.

Way I look at it:

Geno for 4 years $180M with a hefty guarantee (that's my prediction anyway)...

vs.

A 3rd rounder
Darnold with basically HALF the commitment.

Yah I'll take the 2nd option. Geno isn't going to take this team anywhere anytime soon (not with the money he wants) and Darnold isn't going to either (IMO) lol... both are fairly whatever QBs... take the cheaper of the two, take the pick, and move on. Both have veteran experience and can coach up your go forward guy.

I'm dying to see what he gets. If he gets 2 years $80M or something similar to Darnold, then I guess Geno just really hated Seattle and wanted to reunite with Carroll..

We'll see... don't be surprised if there's sticker shock though.

I could see a 2 year ext for 90 mill with 60-65 mill guaranteed.

Maybe a 3 year deal worth 120 mill with maybe 85-90 mill guaranteed.

The guaranteed money is all that matters.

Correct, the guaranteed is all that matters. Which is why I have zero problem with giving $50M guaranteed to Darnold.

lol I dunno about that... but I'm VERY curious to see what Geno is going to want in LV. I know Pete loves Geno and I'm sure Geno respects Pete, but Geno is looking to get paid (Pete is whatever with money, man is rich as fuck). Pete is going to have a lot of leverage coming into LV and clearly wanted Geno so I imagine a huge contract is going to be thrown out.

I could be way off... I'm still predicting a 4 year $180M (60%+ guaranteed) contract. And for that, no thanks. Pete is not going to want to start over with a new QB. I mean Pete isn't far off from being carted out on a rascal scooter.. I will say we need to do a sports science on Pete after he's dead to understand how the body can develop natural cocaine. You don't just chew gum normally like that.
