Sam Cut, Westrbooks In

Looks like the wait is over. Multiple sources are saying that Michael Sam has been cut and Ethan Westbrooks is the final DE. They also say that Sam could end up on the Practice squad.

I think Fisher made the right choice. If we can sign him to our PS great if not someone just got a guy thats gonna give them 100% on every play. I don't think Sam will ever be a probowl player but he could be a serviceable guy. Good luck to him!

i just hope espn and co doesn't try to spin this into something it's not.

Sam won't clear waivers, some team will sign him. I wish Oakland would. He'd be a bice backup to Tuck or Woodley. He had a nice preseason in limited action.

Westbrooks is a really solid player, shocked he wasn't drafted.

DJ, the more I read and listen to folks who know of his college days, this Westbrooks kid was a real steal in the draft. Many pundits are surprised that he was not selected in rounds 3-5 because the consensus is he is that good. Perhaps Snisher scored a HR on this guy and that is why everyone has been stating that he has been playing lights out right up there on par with Donald. I expect to see him get plenty of playing time especially since Hayes is still not 100%.

Absolutely the right decision. Sam played hard, but just isn't good enough or versatile enough to beat out Westbrooks, who outplayed him throughout the preseason. I figured Westbrooks would be tough for Sam to beat out for the roster as soon as the Rams snagged him.

I don't know Sam and I don't wish him bad but personally I am relieved that he was the one cut. Mainly because of the attention he brought to the Rams. We have other rookies trying their darnest and playing their hearts out but never made one headline. All Sam had to do was make one tackle and you would have thought he single handedly won a game.

I know that it wasn't all his fault but he was the one that got the circus rolling shortly after they called his name in the draft.

Maybe now we can settle down and concentrate on playing some football. GO RAMS!!

I think Sam can make it for us, but I would like to see him on the PS. MAybe we can even try to stand him up and have him rush. When you best DLine in football, its hard to make it as a rookie.

It was the right call. Michael Sam was given every opportunity to earn a roster spot. In probably 31 other camps he'd have made it. He's a good player. Not good enough to crack the most talented and deepest defensive line in the league... but definitely good enough to play in the NFL.

Here's hoping there are 31 other teams foolish enough that he clears waivers and lands right back in St. Louis on the practice squad!

Yea Snake Eyes, that alone is indicative of what all the other teams think of Sam. Much of what has been stated about his football prowess has support from other talent seekers in the league. AS John Clayton stated, Sam is a 4-3 DE and nearly half of the teams in the league field 3-4 defenses. So his chances of getting claimed by another team is cut in half or therabouts. He'll probably be headed to the practice squad unless, as Fisher intimated, there are other pressing needs that the 8 spots are filled with as the day and week goes on.

I have no problem with signing him to the PS. But if we don't I wont lose any sleep over it. I can't speak for everyone tho. I'm already seeing "The Rams FO hates gays" post on other forums. siiiigh. Gotta love the society we live in today.
