Now that we added Alex Smith and will be dumping KC. Where does that leave us with the salary cap?

1) How much salary cap we got?

2) Free Agents on our team we need to sign?

3) Possible Free Agents we should look at?

Losing Fuller I think CB is 1 of many positions we need to address during offseason.

Well we had just shy of $50M

Figure Smith will take up $17M minimum.. but I think more like $20M unless its a back loaded deal.

So we would have between $30-33M in cap space.

We need to sign Brown and Breeland. But we are not going to get both.

As for the rest, its too early to tell as some guys slated to be free agents will resign with their own teams.

So $33mill even without KC contract? Do we cut Norman or rework his deal?

Why?? We just traded for an elite QB.... aside from signing Brown.... Who do we need to spend a shit ton of cap space on??

Because he is expensive for a CB. And does KC count towards the cap you listed?

Actually CB does not have to be addressed. Norman, Moreau, and Dunbar are fine. Bree should not be brought back. Brown I would want back.

Robinson can be deep threat and make the jump balls. What other positions you thinking Dean? What’s your top 5 needs.

1) Do you see us getting Cravens back? If we do I still think we need to take a Safety
2) If we sign Brown do we still need another ILB

OK, I'm going to say it now, beyond safety, ILB, LG, WR, TE, RB, and QB, now, we had better also focus our attention on what coming soon and that's a need for OLB, and LT. Yeah I said it!!

Where are you getting those numbers?

Unless his contract seriously changes his preexisting 2018 contract numbers, Smith gets 17M for sure in 2018, not 14M. Sportrac and OTC are saying in 2018, Smith's base salary is 14.5M, he gets a roster bonus of 2M and a workout bonus of 500K. He's getting 17M in 2018.

The details of the extension, covering years 2019-2022 haven't been released yet, so we don't really know what his base salary for those years will be and how much of the 23M/year comes from incentives. Correct me if I'm wrong.

You are not wrong.

But this is the Redskins board. And this particular move has GOT to be painted in a positive light. You been here and you know, many have been saying almost any QB could do what Cousins did, and almost any one would be a better QB.

This move has no choice but to be put in as positive a light as possible. People pounding the table to get rid of Cousins can not all of a sudden be upset that we did just that. :suds:

$14.5M is his base salary. He also has a roster bonus of $2m and a workout bonus of $.5M

The Skins pick up his contract as it sits, and they extended him.

So stick with me as numbers are your strong suite.

14.5 + 2 + .5 = 17

So his minimum cap hit against the Skins this year is $17M unless they lowered that number during the extension in which case they pushed that money into later years.

The money right now is being reported as a 4 year extend (5 years total) with $71M in guarantees averaging $23.5M per year.
