It's scary to think how good this Sabres team might be in 2-3 years if these draft picks and prospects pan out.

Zadorov & Ristolainen have a lot of potential. They to have begun their ELC's early. The problem the Sabres have this year is the veteran players they have simply aren't getting it done. They're supposed to be helping the young guys & they really aren't. Tyler Myers was awful last night.
More like for the last 3 1/2 years.
Not sure if the rookie season was just a fluke or if they mismanaged him somehow, but he's got a long way to go to get back to rookie form even.
Zadorov and Ristolainen are both going to be good for a long time though I think. Ristolainen's ELC has kicked in, but Zadorov's has not yet. I believe he's at 5 games so far on the year and only did 7 or 8 last year, so they've got time to make a decision on him.
Probably the toughest choice on the roster, IMO. I think he's definitely ready for the NHL and wouldn't see a ton of benefit from returning to juniors, but at the same time I hate to waste an ELC year on this trainwreck.
That's the quandary the Sabres are in. There needs to be a balance. The problem is Buffalo doesn't seem to have many young vets to fill some spots that are being taken by their rookies. Every player handles losing differently. Every team needs to learn how to win, but this is obviously different. The only way I would be concerned about the young guys & all the losing is if they don't get one of the top 2 guys in this years draft. The reason I say this is because that's obviously what the team feels they need. If they don't get it, then maybe the young guys wonder where the light is at the end of the tunnel??
I understand what you're saying, but honestly, what are the odds that they don't get one of those two players at this point? If they finish dead last they're obviously guaranteed of no worse than the 2nd pick.
As things stand now (caveat: I know we're only 1/5 of the way into the season so things can change), Columbus is the only team in the league that's less than 5 points ahead of Buffalo. They're 1 point ahead (with two games in hand). But common sense says that their injury luck has got to change at some point in the season, so they should improve. Buffalo is almost totally healthy and they're still this bad. They're not going anywhere this year.
Dallas & Colorado might give the Sabres a run. Like I said earlier Colorado hasn't been good in even years. I can't figure out why Dallas is so bad. Then of course there's the Oilers. It would be hilarious if they ended up with McDavid & still couldn't win.
Only watched parts of their games but I'd suggest this...
Hockey 101 - Basic Positioning
is not good on the Stars.
In fact their defense is hot garbage.
Sabres are going to pass the Oil by Thanksgiving. Wait for it, wait for it...

Their are four teams worse than the Sabres. They better be careful or they won't get a shot at McDavid.
This recent stretch has been nice to watch, but I honestly can't see it lasting.
I haven't checked any of the fancy stats, but I know that Enroth can't keep up this kind of goaltending. His worst Sv% since this streak started was a .923.
On the plus side too, I would assume there's a few guys on the team who have helped their trade value a bit during this streak. I'm figuring the Sabres will still be sellers at the deadline.
