I'd say most any coach who's done the same turn around would agree. What would the coach that's done it 3 out of the past 4 years know about it?

Btw - they've gotten more time in previous years.

Last year's game was on the 9th and the games were on the 31st for example.

The year before that - on the 11th and the games were played on the 31st.

This year they get 7 days because they want to meet the Monday night schedule.

And now, all of a sudden, playing on back-to-back weekends is some detriment to the health of the players?

2015 - Dec31 - Jan 12, 12 days between games.
2016 - Dec 31 - Jan 11, 11 days between games.
2017 - Dec 31 - Jan 9, 9 days between games.
2018 - Jan 1 - Jan 8, 7 days between games.

Umm, if you think our SEC schedule is so cherry - go take a count at how many of those teams we play are coming off bye weeks. Since you mention 2010 - 6 of the 8 SEC teams we played had bye weeks before playing us, more than 50% of other SEC teams total bye weeks for the year. Other years have been just as bad, especially if you count FCS teams prior like everyone likes to point out Alabama playing before Auburn.

Hell, until recently the Tennessee "3rd Saturday in October" was being played on the 4th Saturday - just so Tennessee could take a bye week on the 3rd.

2015 - Dec31 - Jan 12, 12 days between games.
