NFL: Profile - Alabama Center Ryan Kelly
Redskins Home

Not in the Kelly @21 camp but having Trent, Kelly, and Scherff would be a real nice building block. Wouldn't lose my lunch over this pick but i'd rather address the d-line or safety position first.

Moves real well, I have seen scouting reports that he might struggle in a power run offense. I heard on the radio this morning that almost all centers taken in the first round end up being pro bowlers. Don't quote me but it was a pretty good ratio. In the 80 percentile or something.

Some say he is the best interior lineman in this draft some do not. I just think its a safe pick. Considering who we have for center I just want to upgrade the position. It is by far the worst group of talent on this team by position.

I actually agree. He probably is the best interior O-lineman in this draft.

But lets look at it this way. If your car needed new tires and a new paint job, which is going to get you farther? You wont get me to say we couldnt use an upgrade at center. But the fact that we were 17th in offense, and bottom ten in defense KINDA makes me think improving the D-line might be a little more important.

That is fine Shark. But protecting KC and improving the run game should be top priority. We still can get a run stuffing DL in the 2nd round.

Kirk was one of the least sacked QBs in the league. We NEED two starters on the D-line. I agree the run game needs to improve. But im not seeing Kelly as this all powerful piece to make us a 2000 yard rushing team. If we cant stop teams from running it down our throats and scoring at will, what will it matter??

Kelly would bring stability at the Center position. I dont trust the pass blocking of Ribeye and Litch. A two down run stuffer can be had later in the draft. Take advantage of this draft with its strength. We do not need two starters on the dline. With your boy Murphy moving to the dline its should make it less of a need. I agree we don't have a NT but we have plenty of DE's(Baker, Paea,RJF, Reyes, and now Murphy)

We play in our base defense 20% of the time. Peaa is coming off injury, Murphy is switching positions and we dont have alot of youth there. Sorry dude, but Robinson, Reed, Billings and quite a few others are FAR from two down D-lineman. We got one starter and five backup/rotational players on the D-line. We need TWO starters.

Its been reported that Reed and Robinson can not get to the QB and our run stuffers. So what Paea is coming off an injury. He was actually brought in here to get to the QB. You don't give up on the guy only after one year. This was SM's FA. There is going to be a role here for him. Baker and Paea are solid at DE and both can get to the QB. NT is the only need.

Dude.. Robinson has had 3 sacks a season when the coaches asked him NOT to rush the passer and be more of a space eater, run stuffer. Reed was in the same boat, yet managed 11 tackles for loss over the last two seasons. Dont mistake playing within the system for lack of ability. Peae was average when healthy. And I know you have a manwood for Kelly. But do you seriously want to burn a first rounder on a guy who is only in the conversation because of a perceived lack of depth at his position in the draft?? Really?? The strength in this draft is in the D-line. BUt you want to take the best player from one of the weakest class of interior o-lineman in five years because you think he would some how be more valuable than actually shoring up our run defense that couldnt stop Christopher Reeves from rushing for 200 yards on us??

In my mind you kinda have to compare these guys with others at their position when discussing 21.

Is Kelly THAT much better than Allen or Martin?

Is Joseph THAT much better than Cash or Cravens?

Is Treadwell, Doctson, or Coleman THAT much better than Thomas?

Is Reed, Robinson, or Billings THAT much better than Washington, Jones, Johnson or Ridgeway?

Scot has to determine where the value is. What position has the bigger dropoff. He keeps saying there are some guys he loves @21 and hopes are still there, but that could be poker talk this close to the draft.

Now assessing what we have. We can't go into the season with Golston at NT, with Compton and Foster behind him. We will get gashed and waste 75 million dollars in the meantime. NT has to be 1 or 2.

From what I understand we can cut Paea and not take too much of a cap hit. Could be wrong. Not sold on him at all.

I'm also not sold on Long at center, but I assume will find out in camp unless we do grab a center in the 1st 3 rounds.

Do you trust Ihenacho more than Lichtensteiger? Does that come into play when making the pick?

I agree! KC was upright, when passing for the majority of the season. Very impressive run-blocking by Trent Williams, Long, Scherff, and Morgan Moses. I did notice that our run-stopping was atrocious. How could anyone forget, when the DL gave up 153 yards to Devonta Freeman (saw in person), 146 yards to Chris Ivory, 136 yards to Doug Martin, and 129 yards to LeGarrette Blount in four, consecutive games? That's unacceptable. It was like these backs could've had 200 yards, had they kept being fed the ball. Smh With that being said, we have got to get a run-stopper with the first pick. Period.

Fwiw (I think a lot), Bill Polian absolutely loves Ryan Kelly - said he rated him as the 4th best player in the draft (though I think he meant to say 4th best O-lineman). It's definitely not a reach if the Skins pick him at 21, and he would be an upgrade and building block, so I would be fine with the Skins picking him.

The speculation on Long transitioning to the C position this season has been ongoing. Can't see simply relying on him to make that jump but it will make competition at training camp fun at that position.

Even after I've accumulated one trophy points? Can I make up for it by calling Darrell Green Fan a doofus - assuming the waiting list isn't too long yet? :D With KFFL 99.9% gone, I got no place to go!
