Ryan Howard??

Well. I am not counting on him to be my full time 1stbaseman this season at all and he does claim he can play all 162 games.

I am skeptical about this. What is the good word on him? Do people really think he will be healthy and remain healthy?

I personally have no faith in a 34 year old who's missed half of the past two seasons, and plenty of games in many other seasons to boot. Factor in what's happened to his BA, and a power decline, I sure wouldn't put many eggs in that basket. Even if/when he's healthy, he's only helping in 2 categories, maybe even hurting you in another.

I might take him as my first CI, if I were pressed, but I'd be sure to have a capable CI on the bench. Ideally I'd rather have Howard on the bench, hope for a hot, healthy first couple months and trade him for anything I could get

If your league starts a CI and an extra UTIL player, then Howard is somewhere between a low end UTIL play and a bench stash.

If your league only starts 9 hitters, he is not worthy of a roster spot. There are probably at least 25 better hitters on the free agent list who are better bets for 2014 production.
