I just read an article and watched a clip suggesting the Patriots could/should include Gilmore in a trade to move up in the draft. If it saved us this years 2nd round pick, would you do it? Maybe for the 10th pick? Our 1st and Gilmore.....

Not sure how BB feels about any of these QB's but if one of them is on his radar and is available then yes. If none of these QB's have truly won over BB and it's just a crapshoot then probably not.

I know that was a non-answer but I have not watched any of these dudes other than highlight reels so I have no idea if it's all hype or if one or more of them will actually become anything. In Bill I trust.

I guess these questions should always be phrased "If you were BB", that gives you the power to fill in those blanks as part of making that decision.

If I were BB and the QB I wanted was sitting there then yes. Otherwise I would not unless somehow the stud tackle were sitting there, then yes... The other positions I can get a solid player at 15. I might try to trade him for a second, then pair that with my spare third rounder to get into the back of the 1st round.

According Albert Breer of SI, The Patriots had discussions with the Falcons about #4, the Lions about #7 and the Panthers about #8 yesterday. He said that from everything that he could get, everything is preliminary, but that a deal with the Falcons could lso hinge on the Patriots taking Julio Jones in the deal. No details.

Here's my question,

Would you deal #15, #96, 2022 first round, fourth round picks, Stephon and JC Jackson for Julio Jones and the #4?

Remove AStephon, he'd be too expensive for Atlanta. They're cutting salaries.

Assuming Lawrence and Wilson are gone and Mack or Lance are there at 10 yes I am okay with this. Anyone else I am not okay with it.

No.
It would make a great offense by seriously undermining the defense at a great cost of draft picks.

It's pretty much given that Lawrence and Wilson are gone when SF picks. No question that they are playing a game and have other teams gritting their teeth. The Niners didn't give up what they did to move up and pick a LB so that means one of the three of Jones, Lance and Fields are left.
If you're a GM and you want a QB from this group, you have to be in front of the curve especially if you think (know) that there are others who need a QB and will be trying to move. That GM must have a plan for who he wants the most and what he's will to give up to get him. He also has to have a plan in place if the Niners take the guy who they want most.

The easiest example is Denver. They've made no bones about wantig a QB to replace Locke and they've been lookingbat every team in front of them. Atlanta is sitting at #4 and it's known that they will be taking Pitts the TE. To get that pick away from them will take three first round picks and a 2nd or 3rd in 2021. At #5 is Cincinnati and they are taking Dewell to protect burrows blind side and are not entertaining offers. At #^ is Mimi and their gm has said that they will trade the pick but prefer not to trade with any AFC team. They don't want to create any competition for themselvces. For any AFC team that pretty much says to back up the draft pick truck. #& is Detroit and they're open to the highest bidder . Denver just might be willing to give up two firsts and a third to move to #7 and keep anyone, including the Patriots away from Jones or fields. Then at #8 is Carolina and they are a total unknown. They traded for Darnold but could easily grab a QB as a JIC (just in case) if that doesn't work out for them. The Broncos are at #9 and are literally sitting in a "what if" position. What if they don't do anything and all of the top five QBs get taken? Worse, what if all of them become top 10's? What if they move and sell the summer home and they have to take their second or third choice and they get another Osweiler?

The game is afoot.............
You lost me at "and it's known "
Remove AStephon, he'd be too expensive for Atlanta. They're cutting salaries.
He's also a defensive player of the year. Outside of this QB happy draft, a DPOTY is usually very good draft pick bait.

You've probably heard this already, but it's really picking up steam.

The Atlanta Falcons team reporter from "The Athletic" reports that there are five teams interested in making a deal for the Falcons WR Julio Jones.
Jones has a monster contract and the Falcons have no money to sign their draft picks. They want to trade Jone before his contract crushes

The Falcons "would like to" trade the star wide receiver, The Athletic reported at length Thursday. But the salary cap issues the team is facing are dire, and the only have two players they can deal with to help create some space – Jones and defensive lineman Grady Jarrett, according to The Athletic.

Jones signed a three-year, $66 million contract right before the start of the 2019 season. He is expected to be a $23 million cap hit in 2021, according to Spotrac. The Athletic reported that the Falcons are between $400,000 and $600,000 under the cap and don’t have enough to sign their entire draft class.

The team could end up restructuring Jarrett’s deal to get some wiggle room, but The Athletic reported the team has yet to approach Jarrett about the decision. The other idea would be to trade Jones, something that general manager Terry Fontenot has been publicly open about.

The report identified only a handful of teams who could help the Falcons – Baltimore Ravens, Indianapolis Colts, Los Angeles Chargers, New England Patriots, San Francisco 49ers or potentially the Tennessee Titans.

Jones only played in nine games in 2020 after making six consecutive Pro Bowls. He had 51 catches for 771 yards and three touchdowns. Atlanta finished the season 4-12.

Atlanta’s idea to trade Jones first surfaced last month.

Fontenot told FOX 5 Atlanta at the time the organization was picking up the phone on calls from teams looking into Jones’ availability.

"You have to listen if people call," Fontenot said. "On any player. We are in a difficult cap situation, that's just the circumstance. It's not a surprise for us."

#Patriots WR News 1) They tried to trade up to the 4th overall pick but they wanted Julio in a mega deal. Didn’t happen. 2) Patriots are in talks with Cleveland about trading for OBJ. The Browns want JC Jackson. Patriots have been trying to be “aggressive” getting a true #1 WR.

More about JC. NE didn’t address CBs during the draft. They had Dre Kirkpatrick come in for a visit. I’m told that they want Sherman and get this deal done first before sending away JC. Problem is that Sherman is his own agent. So he’s been playing hardball during this process.

NoAdderal thank you.

I hope Sherman is bagging groceries. Can't stand him and he's 1/2 the player he was when he only covered 1/3 of the field for the LOB.

Bill Belichick has done some things this year that have been totally out of the ordinary when signing free agents and drafting. The reports that he made a huge trade offer to move to #4 in the draft under normal circumstances and get Julio Jones in that same trade doesn't surprise me in the least.

Now Julio has put his two cents into this. He said yesterday that he and the Falcons are no longer in the same book let alone the same page and stated that he would love to go to the Patriots and play with..................Cam Newton. The Cleveland Browns are looking to move OBJ and they've decided to stick a foot in this pond. Not exactly sure what's going on but it seems that they will trade OBJ to Atlanta and take Julio's contract no questions asked, but with Julio basically saying he wants to go to NE, the Browns could end up with nothing. There hasn't been any mention of any trade restrictions in Julio's contract.

With the atmosphere in Atlanta being as tense as it is and the Falcons being unable to sign their draftees, something has to give. Julio's cap it kicks in on June 1st so the falcons have 10 days to work this thing. They're not in a very good position to negotiate so the best that they could hope for is a 3rd round pick and a player. Indications are that the 30 year old WR would be willing to tear up his $66,000,000 contract and take a team friendly five year deal with the Patriots.

Question: Would it be a good trade if the Patriots sent Stephon Gilmore to the Falcons straight up for Julio Jones? This would do three things.
1. Get a top "A #1" WR.
2. Open up $16.5M on the Patriots cap that would allow them to do #3
3. Sign Julio Jones to a team friendly five year deal AND
4. Give JC Jackson a new 3 year contract at about $12-$14M per.

I disagree with the first part of this statement. BB has always approached things with a "what's best for the team approach". This year signing the free agents and draft actions reflect "what's best for the team" as of now.

"What best for the team" can be very confusing without context. A certain action we wanted last year seemed obvious as "best for the team" then, but BB didn't act... "What's best for the team" isn't a current state question, but sometimes it is. It's a one week, one year, two year, five year multi-dimensional question.

If you are on the doorstep of a championship then "right now" has higher urgency than "for the next five years", but you don't trade five first rounders to fill the only gap left on your team. And if you suck a little you don't trade the best two players for two number ones in five years because a few wins now keeps your fan base a little happier and keeps the team morale higher.

Every point in time there's a different view of the next day, season, two seasons and five seasons. BB has been the far best in the history of the game at concurrently managing all of those time frames.... Even though he looks like a total dick in the process.

2020 was an abnormal year. For the league and the Patriots. Bill's approach this year to free agency and the draft were a bit out of his normal character but there's no question he does what he thinks is best for the team. Only this year, the owner stepped in and pretty much ordered him to dig the plugs out of his ears and listen to others. While the final decision may have been his, he apparently opened the floor to others.

This year, for the first time ever, he used his first round pick to select a quarterback. He has firmly believed that not every first rounder is a starter. Jones may be the the one guy that made him change his mind, but making that choice was out of his normal character.
