I decided to do a little research and the patriots are loaded at linebacker:

Ja'Whan Bentley, Terez Hall, Dante Hightower, Anfree Jennings, Matthew Judon, Brandon King, Raekwon McMillan, Leroy Reynolds,
Josh Uche and Kyle Van Noy.

I can see how a team might be willing to see if they could get a young stud. IBut I can't see BB drafting a LB with such a large group already in house.

That brings us to the draft and maybe there's someone out there who wants Micah Parsons if he's at 15 and they're making a house call to see if Bill might be willing to deal. The Riaders, Washington and Chicago could be looking to move up and the move would cost their first and at least a third.
How absurd would it be for Bill to move down to 19 and then deal that pick with the Steelers, Ravens or even the Saints and get another second or third?

Having a lot of LBs does not make a good LB corps. Bentley has shown nothing, Hall Nothing, Jennings Mehhhh, King????? Uche nothing, Van Noy is what we said nothing special but plays smart.

Chase has a motor I cannot see BB trading him

We'll have to disagree.

By the end of the season, Hall was playing about 50% of then snaps as was Uche. Jennings had a bad wheel most of the year and finally got in from the Chargers game until the end of the year.

Again, no camps made a lot of the learning process difficult for the rookies and the guys who had been on IR previously.

A full camp and preseason will weed out the non-performers.

We are not set at LB!

They performed so poorly last season that there is nobody a lock at LB on this team.

We have apparently improved, not likely done.....

That's why camps are so critical as are the no contact OTAs. Of course, no one is going to attend the voluntary OTAs so it'll be interesting to see what happens when the team required OTAs take place.

Comical quote: "Another veteran, Roberto Aguayo, was signed to the practice squad late last season, which meant the writing was on the wall for Rohrwasser."

So the Pats signing an even bigger draft bust means the writing was on the wall? How about the mere fact he was on the practice squad was the writing.

You had to know that they were going to swing into full gear.

Atlanta is in financial trouble and doesn't have the cap space to pay it's draft picks. Julio Jones is on the clearance shelf and he has an asking price of a first round pick in 2022. Problem is that he's 32 and has a cap hit of $21M in 2021. The team that gets him won't take the entire hit but his contract will cost about $39M for the next three years. It's anticipated that the Falcons will have to settle for a second or most likely a third round pick. Here's the kicker, the deal can't take place until after June 1, 2021 for some very complicated money reason. Rumor is that the first team that the Falcons contacted was the Patriots because they had a very strong interest in him a couple of years ago when they took Sanu.

Here's the biggie.....................................

According to Tom Pellissro of SI and MMQB, his sources in Detroit have told him that the Lions and Patriots are in talks about the Patriots moving up to #7 if Justin Fields is available. Pellissaro said outright that the Broncos will do anything necessary to jump to the Miami #6 because they are determined to pay whatever they have to, to get Fields. According to Pellissaro, the Dolphins don't want to make a deal that will give any AFC opponent any kind of an edge. So that means that the Broncos may have to find a way to entice the Cincinnati Bengals to move down to #9 and get the #5 pick.

If the above is true, what are the Patriots looking to give up to move to #7 and what will the Bengals squeeze out of the Broncos to give up #5? If Denver is that hell bent to get Fields, then Cincy could literally bend them over the table and really put the wood to them. Is Fields really that good that you'd give up your first born??

I don't see Fileds as being that good. And this assumes which is likely that Lawrence, Wison, Jones and Lance all go before #7. I also don't think Miami is in the QB mix if they are smart they grab Chase out of LSU then Harris or Etienne later in the first.

From this discussion it seems Lance is the guy still available at 7. I'd prefer Mac over Lance, but Lance over Fields. Maybe that Fields left Georgia because he couldn't beat Fromm has stuck with me. I know he did well at Ohio State, but did he shrink in competition with Fromm?

I like Mac because of his poise matched with his reasonable physical attributes. 75+% completions? Even with the receivers he had, those guys needed to get the ball, and he delivered it.

I agree 100%.

I also doubt BB takes a QB in round one.

There are arguments for and against each of the three guys.
Jones appears to be the most ready to step in and play right now. He's played in a pro offense and understands how it works.
Fields has all of the tools but Ohio State does not play a pro style offense. It'll take a little time and adjustment.
Lance hasn't had much plying time at all. That and the level of competition is not at the top of div.I and the NFL is much bigger and faster than anything he's seen.

I had to shut off my phone last night because of all of the crap that's starting.

The most intelligent rumor I herd last night was that Lawrence, Wilson and Jones go 1,2,3. Denver moves up and takes Fields.

Here's a very good rumor:

The WFT trades #19 and #51 for #15 and #96 and the WFT takes Lance.

BB then trades #19 to JAX for #25 and #65 (3rd)

As a result, Bill goes to #25 and picks up an extra second round and the first pick in the third round and gives up the comopensatory pick in the third.

With #25 BB takes a WR
With #46 BB takes a CB or Safety
With #51 BB takes QB Kellen Mond.
With #65 BB takes DL

I am very conflicted on what BB will do, as I am every year. But because we are in rebuild mode and he would rely on his defensive genius to win game part of things he takes the best pass rusher be it LB, DE or DT at #15. Then grabs a QB, CB,WR,WR, S, RB

But that's a rumor squared. The first one is a 1 out 10 possibility (guessing for the purpose of creating an equation) the second is more like 1 in 20 possibility. That makes the entirety 1 of 200. The reality is probably far lower. That means you are creating a mock in which the picks are unlikely to be there.

It's pretty much given that Lawrence and Wilson are gone when SF picks. No question that they are playing a game and have other teams gritting their teeth. The Niners didn't give up what they did to move up and pick a LB so that means one of the three of Jones, Lance and Fields are left.
If you're a GM and you want a QB from this group, you have to be in front of the curve especially if you think (know) that there are others who need a QB and will be trying to move. That GM must have a plan for who he wants the most and what he's will to give up to get him. He also has to have a plan in place if the Niners take the guy who they want most.

The easiest example is Denver. They've made no bones about wantig a QB to replace Locke and they've been lookingbat every team in front of them. Atlanta is sitting at #4 and it's known that they will be taking Pitts the TE. To get that pick away from them will take three first round picks and a 2nd or 3rd in 2021. At #5 is Cincinnati and they are taking Dewell to protect burrows blind side and are not entertaining offers. At #^ is Mimi and their gm has said that they will trade the pick but prefer not to trade with any AFC team. They don't want to create any competition for themselvces. For any AFC team that pretty much says to back up the draft pick truck. #& is Detroit and they're open to the highest bidder . Denver just might be willing to give up two firsts and a third to move to #7 and keep anyone, including the Patriots away from Jones or fields. Then at #8 is Carolina and they are a total unknown. They traded for Darnold but could easily grab a QB as a JIC (just in case) if that doesn't work out for them. The Broncos are at #9 and are literally sitting in a "what if" position. What if they don't do anything and all of the top five QBs get taken? Worse, what if all of them become top 10's? What if they move and sell the summer home and they have to take their second or third choice and they get another Osweiler?

The game is afoot.............

I remember the team's clear need being a running back. Then Big Vince fell to us. Don't get me wrong, this is all good conversation. Sometimes waiting to see works out, especially in the teens (not so much in the mid to upper 20s).
