For the money Cooks is making, keep him and take the Comp pick we will get for him. Hogan is cutable, Britt is cutable, Danny wants to stay, but $$ could take him elsewhere, and who knows about MM. IF you can get a 1st for Cooks, then I am on board, but I just don't think anyone above NE is giving NE a 1st. Why take a 2nd or 3rd this yr, when you can get a decent comp pick for him next yr and use him this yr or tag him next yr?
I'd keep Hogan over Cooks. If it camd down to that. But you make a valid point about holding onto Cooks and get a 2019 comp pick.

There is no reason to move any of them. For once, we have some nice, talented depth at the WR spot. We won't have to look for a WR bagging groceries. Cooks, JE, Hogan, Britt, Dorsett. Even without Dola, that is a nice group. Hell add Dola, and who cares if 2 WR are inactive come game day..

I was thinking though...Could Britt take on some of the TE role this yr if we don't bring Allen back?

Can he block?

Assuming Dola stays and that may be making a big assumption unfortunately, that would leave NE with 7 WRs if MM is healthy and still on the roster. No way they're dressing 7 so the only one who wouldn't get stolen ff of the PS would be MM due to his injuries.

I think it was GMFB's little cutie Kay who mentioned she could see Jimmy Graham in NE. Not that I want that prima dona but
that would be an awesome offensive tandem. Graham can't block and I wonder what that would do to Gronk's ego?

Well we know Jimmy Graham can't block either..LOL. I would rather have Eiffert on a prove it, incentive laden 2 yr contract than Jimmy. However, I don't think he would take that as a team with $$ will over pay to keep him from NE. Now does Eiffert want to prove himself and get a bigger deal in 2 yrs, who knows.

I HOPE in the end, Gronk stays, Allen re-works him contract and Hollister are all back next yr. We also have Will Tye on the PS that might fill the role of Allen if he is cut. Other names: Burton and Brate would be a nice fit in NE.

The WR group will work itself out. As long as Cooks, JE, Hogan, Dorsett come back....I'm good. Britt and Dola will work itself out over camp. I just want Britt to get a chance. He's a big talented WR that we have not had here in awhile...but, can he catch on?

Actually there is IMO. As I stated if we could get a guy like Von Miller for Cooks and first I am all about that. We have two picks in round two and the team gets better real fast. Cooks IMO is not all that and a bag of Doritos he is IMO an expendable asset.

Eiffert would be a great fit. Too bad he's a brittle bitch. Regardless I'd take him over Graham. Brate would be another nice fit. Gronk just needs to shit or get off the pot. His decision could drastically change the way BB looks at FA and the draft.

I'm with Yankee if they could put a VM type package together for Cooks + I'd do that in a heart beat. I never bought into the Cooks thing. He appears to give up on a lot of balls. Maybe a Britt/MM could take over his duties.

Hoping a full off season for Britt and Dorsett does wonders for their connection with Brady.
I am not anti Cooks by any means, but I was not overly impressed with him either.

I'm hoping the same thing. Britt has had some nice seasons. Dorsett, meh I'm not sure why TB didn't go to him more? He was literally wide open on a couple plays and TB totally avoided him.

O will be fine. BB fix that damn D.

Dorsett' new role is spot holder on the sideline when Ghost is warming up that leg for a field goal.

This.
I understand I am neither BB or TB or JMcD...but he was WIDE OPEN.
And on the few opportunities that he did have, he either made a decent play or was double/triple teamed.

He may be a complete waste of Jacoby Brissett.
All I am saying is I hope with a year in the TB12 off season program he reaches his potential and earns that TB trust.

So If Landry brought you a 4th rd pick in 2018 and a 7th in 2019.....yet Landry is better than Cooks, what will Cooks bring you??? Tell me, is there a better player in RD 4 of this draft than Cooks or Landry??

After seeing Evans deal in TB...pretty safe to assume Cooks is gone next yr unless tagged. Mine as well hope after "another year in the system with Brady" that his numbers are better than the ones he posted in his 1st season with TB.

Should Patriots Sign Johnny Manziel? Nate Burleson Gives Reason It Could Work
by Logan Mullen on Fri, Mar 9, 2018 at 4:39PM

At some point soon, the New England Patriots will have to start thinking about who is going to replace Tom Brady.

Why not Johnny Manziel?

Sure, such a notion will make more than a few people uneasy, but retired NFL wide receiver Nate Burleson thinks it might work if it happened. The Patriots currently have Brian Hoyer backing up Brady, but he almost certainly isn’t what they have in mind for a long-term option.

It makes sense for New England to draft a quarterback in 2018 — which features a deep class of signal-callers — but it also might want to consider other options. That’s where Manziel, who is serious about making an NFL comeback, comes in.

Burleson addressed Friday on NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football” how the scenario could work.

“Johnny can go there for a reason that not a lot of people really realize. He’s not going to beat out Tom Brady, we all know that. I don’t think there’s any quarterback that can beat out Tom Brady as a free agent coming to the Pats,” Burleson said. “But there’s a competition that he would be confident in going into, and that’s the second-string position, which is my guy Brian Hoyer. Brian Hoyer (and) Johnny Manziel both played together (with the Cleveland Browns), so that second-string competition will be as high as ever, and it also would be like a memory for both of them and the best man will prevail.

“If Johnny goes there though, this will be the most athletic quarterback the Pats have had since Tom Brady has taken over.”

Interesting.

Manziel’s NFL career was beleaguered, to say the least, ending in a blaze of glory with a bender in Las Vegas the night before a game. So while there is some demonstrated history of skill and athleticism that would intrigue teams, it would take a total revamp of the 25-year-old’s previous mindset in order for it to work.

That’s not lost on Burleson.

“One thing we do need to figure out before anybody puts on a Patriots uniform is: How much are you invested intellectually, and how much do you love the game emotionally? Because we’ve seen guys go there that are halfway in love with the game. And when they’re halfway in love with the idea of being a Patriot, it doesn’t really work out.

“The prime example is that one of the best athletes, best wide receivers I’ve ever seen with my own two eyes is Chad Johnson. And he got there, and I remember him talking and it was almost like he was drowning. He said, ‘It’s just the deep end, I can’t get my hands on this playbook and wrap my mind around it,’ and it just didn’t work out.”

The Patriots tested the waters with Tim Tebow in 2013, another skilled quarterback whose NFL career never really took off. Not only was he cut before the regular season started, but he was a totally different animal personality-wise than Johnny Football.

It Goes Without Saying Patriots Should Heavily Pursue Richard Sherman
by Doug Kyed on Fri, Mar 9, 2018 at 3:13PM

Cornerback Richard Sherman first raised his profile in New England more than five years ago after his Seattle Seahawks beat the New England Patriots 24-23 at Century Link Field.

Sherman intercepted Tom Brady in that game then tweeted a “U MAD BRO?” meme at the Patriots quarterback, infuriating New Englanders.

Needless to say, Patriot Nation will be mad if Sherman doesn’t come to New England now that he’s been released by the Seahawks.

The Patriots lost out on veteran cornerbacks Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib, both of whom were traded, in principle, to the Los Angeles Rams. The Patriots won’t re-sign free agent cornerback Malcolm Butler and will need a new starter opposite Stephon Gilmore.

Sherman is coming off a torn right Achilles and cleanup surgery on his left Achilles, but there’s no better fit to play across from Gilmore. Both are big cornerbacks who excel in Cover-1 and Cover-3 defenses. The Patriots could build their defensive scheme, which should change slightly now that Matt Patricia is head coach of the Detroit Lions, around their big cornerbacks. They wouldn’t need to rely on Eric Rowe as a starter and could still pursue another slot option in free agency or the draft.

Sherman told NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero that he wants to play with a great quarterback. The Patriots have a pretty good one in Brady.

The Patriots are the favorites to land Sherman per bookmaker.eu.

Why One NFL Writer Believes Patriots Should Pursue Tyrann Mathieu
by Adam London on Fri, Mar 9, 2018 at 10:00PM

The already-wild NFL offseason has a chance to get even crazier if Tyrann Mathieu hits the open market.

Mathieu has been a star for the Arizona Cardinals since entering the league in 2013, becoming one of the NFL’s best safeties in short time. However, with the Cardinals going through a series of changes, there’s a chance Mathieu could be looking for a new home in the near future.

The talented safety signed five-year, $62.5 million deal with Arizona in the summer of 2016. As a result of the contract’s terms, Mathieu will be guaranteed $18.8 million if he’s still on the Cardinals’ roster come March 16. With a lofty payday awaiting, Arizona has asked Mathieu to take a pay cut, and the 25-year-old apparently isn’t very keen on the idea.

With this in mind, CBS Sports’ Ryan Wilson named five teams that likely would have strong interest in Mathieu if he were to become a free agent, one of which is the New England Patriots. While the Patriots aren’t exactly in dire need of safety help, Wilson laid out an explanation as to why Mathieu would fit in New England.

“Yes, the team is happy with Devon McCourty, Patrick Chung and Duron Harmon, but again (say it with us), you can never have too many playmakers in the secondary,” Wilson writes. “Plus, Mathieu is versatile enough to play cornerback, safety and even inside linebacker in the subpackages. If he ends up in New England, Bill Belichick will undoubtedly find a way to maximize his talents.”

As Wilson notes, depth is a good problem to have. However, when it comes to adding marquee veterans, the Patriots likely would prioritize addressing actual areas of need. New England needs to bolster its linebacking corps ahead of the 2018 season, while offensive line and the pass rush also appear to be points of interest.

Although Mathieu to the Patriots kind of seems like a long shot, there’s still a chance New England adds a star defensive back this offseason. Richard Sherman soon will become a free agent after being released by the Seattle Seahawks on Friday, and the Pats seem like a natural fit for the veteran cornerback.

Richard Sherman is meeting with the 49ers this afternoon. As far as the 49ers are concerned, this will be his last meeting with any team. They fully intend to blow him away with a big contract offer. If he wants to play with a winner, he'll say thank you and listen to teams that have a better than 50/50 chance of winning their division and conference. 49ers are getting a bit cocky. They're must not know that they're in the same division and conference as the Rams.

I have no clue why the Broncos would ever think about such a trade. A late 1st and a guy that is borderline a top-20 WR that is about to get paid decent money for the best pass rusher in the NFL would be ridiculous.

I would say it would be a pretty big selling point though to get to play the Seahawks twice every single year. He is a man that takes a lot of things very personal. I would also say the 49ers are a team that can vastly improve this year compared to last. Yes the Rams look really good heading into this next season but the 49ers finshed as one of the hottest teams in football with $100 million in cap space and a top-10 pick as well.

I was told earlier today that the 49ers were not going to let him out of the building and that definitely held true.
