And this is why we should have final set tiebreak or the french open needs to get some freaking lights. I hate seeing a match carry over to the next day at such a critical stage unless weather is the reason

He lost to Rafa in 5 sets, but it was in the First Round. He'd never been past the third before, and his best win at Roland Garros was probably over Berlocq. The win over Robredo was pretty shocking, and says a lot about his mental fortitude. He couldn't touch the Robredo serve at all until the very end, so he knew every service game was essentially for the set. He faced 13 break points and came through on every one of them.

For a guy with limited junior experience, bad conditioning (because he's 6'10), and non-ideal form to have the career Isner's had is really something. I can't stand the flack he gets simply because he is the #1 American and not winning slams.

In a weird way, I think maybe playing on clay helps Isner. Hey, we know at least he can play for 4-5 hours in these extended 5 set matches from 2011 and onward at the FO (vs. Nadal 2011; vs. Mathieu 2012; vs. Haas 2013), so he must be doing something right. At least he's not getting blown out.

So a theory I was thinking about, is that since it's usually easier to break on clay, maybe that helps Isner? Because Isner himself STILL won't lose many service games, but it gives him an easier chance to break others?

I loved that 5 set match against Nadal in 2011. Yeah he didn't win, and I don't think he had a legitimate chance to win a 3rd set, but I was glad that the 1st round match lived up to its potential, and I was glad he competed.

I don't like final set tiebreakers. They're too random.

So I'd rather see a stadium upgrade and some lights.

Hopefully the roof that they're adding by 2018 will also include lights.

A 5th set tiebreak 9 is the opposite of random, and should be the norm for all of the majors.

It'll get there soon enough.

the 9 in my post, however, is indeed random

Thank goodness Federer regrouped at 0-30 there. I was worried he would have to take his own "injury" timeout to try to change the momentum. Truly shameful move from Gulbis.

Yeah when players pull that garbage and it is such a shame that they have not done anything to address it.

Fed now down 3-0 in the 5th. Need a break ASAP

Fed's in deep trouble, down a break (3-0) in the fifth. He is playing idiotically by repeatedly getting into backhand battles with Gulbis. He has the better forehand and it's not like Gulbis isn't giving him the court to hit to his forehand. It's just that Fed is being stubborn. The good news is he has proven he can break Gulbis.

Fed's out. Yet another reminder that greatness if fleeting. Prime Fed is gone, and he's not coming back. If this summer is any indication, Prime Nadal may be gone as well, even if he finds a way to win here. Enjoy the great ones while you can.

Fed needs to regroup for Wimbledon. His returns were decent, but his serve was crap today. He's not gonna get broken seven times on the grass so I guess that's a good omen. He also charged the net and tended to be successful today. Where he lost was the exhausting backhand-backhand rallies. Those need to go away. He no longer has a top five backhand so he needs to quit pretending like he does.

fed's loss was unsurprising. you can tell he hasn't been training as hard as he usually does with the little bit of muffin top going on. i think it just shows that he's been enjoying his new twins, and focusing less on tennis for a bit. good for him.

tsonga is 29 now, and about as heavy as he's been in a few years. he's just asking for an injury. rasheed kept him in good shape, and now he's regressed since firing him. he can expect to keep getting obliterated against top opponents unless he makes some big choices fast. at his age, unless he commits to fitness in a big way, he'll be out of the top 20 before he knows it.

i'd LOVE to see stosur take out shriekapova right now.

You should get the tennis channel app so you're able to watch it while at work....That's what I do.

I never miss tennis anymore because I have the tennis channel app and watch espn. I only will miss the SF because I don't think NBC has any app like that

those should all be good

i'm a teacher, so i can't really watch video on my phone at work.

i usually just dvr it, and make sure to stay away from anything that can tell me the scores until i can get home and watch. it's not so bad really, because i can just ff through commericials and medical timeouts and such.
