This is when I start paying attention to a Grand Slam as the 3rd round approaches because rank players begin facing each other and tmr we have a few.

Tursunov vs Federer
Raonic vs Simon
Cibulkova vs Stosur
Cilic vs Novak
Tsonga vs Janowicz
Hantuchova vs Kerber
Robredo vs Isner

Robredo has been playing really well for about a year, and is a clay court specialist. He made 2 slam quarterfinals last year, including Roland Garros. Isner hasn't made it past the 3rd round in a major in over 2 years, and only 3 times in his entire career.

Robredo is a clear favorite in a clay match against him.

Isner's about to win in straight sets. I'm so happy to be wrong about this!!!!!!!

Heck yeah it is. Didn't he make it to the 4th round here before losing to rafa in 4 or 5 sets?

He lost to Rafa in 5 sets, but it was in the First Round. He'd never been past the third before, and his best win at Roland Garros was probably over Berlocq. The win over Robredo was pretty shocking, and says a lot about his mental fortitude. He couldn't touch the Robredo serve at all until the very end, so he knew every service game was essentially for the set. He faced 13 break points and came through on every one of them.

For a guy with limited junior experience, bad conditioning (because he's 6'10), and non-ideal form to have the career Isner's had is really something. I can't stand the flack he gets simply because he is the #1 American and not winning slams.

Wow that had to be Rafa's toughest 1st round here.

Haven't started watching today.

Here's a recap of the last few days:

+++++++++++++++

* FED - Tursunov: I couldn't get a feel for Turnsunov's game. I couldn't identify a particular strength or style.

To me, he just seemed like a "player", rather than someone who does X or Y well.

This was a difficult match, as Tursunov didn't make many mistakes and just hung around.

7-5, 6-7, 6-2, 6-4

* Isner-Robredo: Good win for Isner. First 3 sets were tie breakers. 7-6 (13), 7-6 (3), 6-7 (5), 7-5

BTW, Isner is 2nd in all-time history for tie break win %.

He faces Berdych next. Hopefully Isner can pull it off. But he hasn't shown being able to beat multiple good players before, and he seems to wear down easily between matches.

* Simon-Raonic: Raonic was serving for it at 5-4 in the 5th, when Simon broke back. Crowd was electric.

Raonic then broke back to lead 6-5.

He then served it out.

Raonic did have a hard time making 1st serves, in that 1st opportunity.

In the matchup between Steve Johnson and Jack Sock, who is going to prevail?
Somebody who will lose in the 3rd or 4th round.

Really great to see Sock finally go out. Until he spends a lot more time off the court on fitness, he'd better get used to going pretty much nowhere at majors.

Just got to see the pouty little bitch Young go down, too. :)

Murray back to grabbing at fake injuries.

When he won his majors, he wasn't doing that at all.

Since losing Lendl, he's reverted to his jr. mentality, and will go nowhere fast. He needs a coach. Now.
