This "no guarantee" includes the potential for them to trade down and someone else takes Bosa.

Possible...but unlikely. Teams seemingly move up every year to get QB's, but little else. The last time some team shot up to the top or near the top of the draft to get something other than QB (that I remember) was Atl for Julio Jones. Of course, Jon Gruden is a wild card and he's gotta be looking for someone to replace Mack immediately, so I wouldn't totally discount it either.

Ah yes, the Raaaaiiiiders, with 3 1st round picks. Yep, same as last year they want the same position as us.

FORTUNATELY for that coin flip, we got McGlinchey and they got Kolton Miller.

I doubt that anyone from this class will come in and be effective right away against professional competition. There's a reason why these edge rushers are at a premium; its because there are very few of them with enough skill to do it at the professional level when they've always been able to get by being a better, stronger athlete in college.

Anyone would include Bosa. I'm not saying any rookie will come in and lead the league in sacks but a number of the rookies could improve the 49ers pass rush enough to make a difference in how good the defense and team are.

Bosa might be the exception.

It doesn't change the fact that a number of guys could improve the 49ers pass rush it's not like they were league leaders.
Not enough to make any measurable difference. They need a guy who is dominant in order to make up for their horrendous secondary.

I don't think the Giants moved up to get him. They had the second worst record in 1980, and picked 2nd in the 1981 draft. Off the top of my head, I think SF moving up to get Rice in 1985 is up there.

The 49ers moved up to get JJ Stokes farther up in the 1st round. No one likes to remember that one. But in each case they weren't trying to move into the top 3. Any non QB taken there would have to be an exceptional talent to want to give up so much to get there.

Walsh also had alot to do with drafting Gio Carmazzi. That was a horrible pick. Walsh also hand picked Terry Donahue to be his successor at GM. Walsh was not perfect. He also did good things running the organization but he was not quite the same after stepping down after the 1988 season.

i think the next highest was up to #11, for Anthony Davis. Granted, i think our pick was #13, so we didn't move far. In that same year did we trade up for Mike Iupati at #17, don't remember how we got that pick?

My mistake. I thought they moved up to get Taylor. Good choice by the Niners though huh?

Yes but they can sign a free agent or two.
That's what we thought last year when they had record-setting cap room and the cheap bastards only got a mediocre Center in Richburg a back up RB in McKinnon and an injured Sherman on the cheap.
Knowing the Yorks, they'll do the same thing this year.

Sure seemed like a good bet though. He was great in college. I remember he had a couple of decent seasons but what I think he is most remembered for is having Romanowski spit in his face and completely punk him.

The 49ers actually spent some cash. Richburg got a big contract for a center. They probably overpaid for McKinnon. And Sherman's contract wouldn't be as cheap if he made incentives. Some of the FA acquisitons have been questionable but I've never bought into the idea that it was Jed York who was limiting how much the FO could spend. The lack of spending during Baalke's tenure was a result of his insistence on sticking to his blueprint.
