Perez has shown a tendency to crumble during Maddux's tenure as well.

As long as he crumbles the way he did in 2013 and prior to his injury in 2014 I will take the Maddux version of Perez crumbling over the Brocail version.

What is your opinion as to the cause of him performing worse now?

By the way, I took a few lumps from you, and deservedly so, at times over the past couple of years regarding Perez and how I used to think he was overrated coming up through the system. I have often said since that time that I was dead wrong about Perez. As it turns out was I right all along or is it still up in the air? I sure hope it turns out I was indeed wrong and not wrong about being wrong.

I think he's always been on the fringe. I think you're trying to paint a black and white picture when there is no such thing.

Like I said I never even considered Brocail until recently. Will brought up a very good point and that coupled with the Perez thing makes me think Brocail could very well be at fault. It may not be his fault, but I think some people can look at the things I mentioned and guess that it is his fault to a certain extent. It is just a guess on my part, but not one that I just flipped a coin to come up with or anything.

And what about now outstanding our pitching was before this nose dive? We were unbelievable in one run games. I just don't see it.

It does seem like a good number of pitchers have taken a turn for the worse this year in terms of performance (not all of them, though). I see a guy like Tom Wilhelmsen, who has always been a pretty solid reliever, come here this year and completely fall apart to where he's not even usable in mop-up duty. Then he's released and he goes right back to pitching pretty well for the Mariners. It does seem strange. Tolleson has been awful. Perez has been worse. Nick and Chi-Chi were at least semi-decent last year and now they're both awful.

I'm not looking to blame Brocail. I honestly have no insight into the Rangers clubhouse anymore. As I have said before, I am close friends with Jackie Moore as well as the entire family who used to manage the team's clubhouse before Hoggy took over. Also, I used to live 2 doors down from Mike Young (who then rented the house to Marlon Byrd and then Colby Lewis). I spoke with both MY and Colby multiple times in the front yard and shot the breeze about the team. So between all of those sources, I used to get all sorts of inside access that was pretty unfiltered.

But now, I've got nothing, so I have no clue if Brocail has had any effect (positive or negative) or not. It could be just something as simple as Maddux was better at spotting glitches in their deliveries than Brocail is. It might have zero to do with him at all. I have no clue. I just thought it was an interesting discussion.

He doesn't have major league pitches anymore. That's not Brocail's fault.

If the royals offered.... I would take 1 win out of the next 2 games at this point. I can't deal with another sweep. We just got swept

As it stands right now, our division is going to have a tough time of getting a second team in.

For me, I'm not worried about this at the moment. I'm a pretty big believer in righting the ship and letting the rest of it take care of itself.
