And what you fail to accept is that the Oswieler failure proves, the team would have been better off paying him last year even if he only turned out to be average. Because now all his price is doing is going up.

We bet $20M he couldnt perform at the same level again.. he did. Now we want to double down??

I agree KC has us by the balls. I'm just saying what was presented to the Skins last year. Are you sure the offer stayed at 16m? I thought it went up in the last minutes.

It never went up. And honestly if they had offered him $19M a year with $50M guaranteed, he would have taken it

I understand of Allen's low ball offers. I am just saying he wasn't willing to do a LTD at the time of 2015 offseason b/c KC was unproven.
So? First, If peter king is correct (big if), he states that Allen killed the deal because of concerns about RG3 and how he would take extending KC. Its right there in his article. But even if Allen had reservations about KC in 2015, I say again, so? Who didn't have reservations about him at that time. Not sure what your argument is. For what ever reason, Allen killed SM's desire to sign KC to a LTD in 2015.

No argument. I was just pointing out that the team tried to get a LTD done in Dec of 2015.

No, they didn't. Not sure why this is so confusing. Allen killed the deal and over ruled SM before he could present it. No offer was ever submitted to the player. Just because KC's agent after the first offer was killed said lets wait until after the season doesn't mean that they couldn't still submit an offer.

BTW, 2 years later, they still haven't submitted a real offer the could be accepted.

When the agent says we will wait until after the season to talk about a contract why would the Redskins submit a offer? IM just pointing out that they reached out

Because if it was an offer that was real, they might consider it. Cmon, dean. you are just being obstinate now.

that was in the peter king article.

OK. I saw it. I still have never seen the 16 million dollar thing and when that being floated. I believe that may have been the number floated after 2015 which got negotiations off to a rough start as the King article states.

Again, the December thing isn't a big deal. It is another example of BA wanting to buy low when the price is high. That isn't how investments work. If you want a bargain, buy when their stock is low.

We don't know what the guaranteed portion of that 2015 contract was. I still haven't seen the article that said it was offered.

Again though, you are missing the point. BA wants to buy each season at the previous year's prices. That isn't how it works.

If the 2015 thing is true, what that shows is just how astute SM was.

I'm just going off of what Skinsdad said regarding the numbers, based on the proposed $16 mill contract that was canked prior to the '15 season.

Not sure about guaranteed money, probably not much, but why should it be?? He was 2-7 over the course of 3 years as a starter for goodness sake! Why should he get a whole lot of guaranteed $$$?? Why should a contract for him even be in the same ballpark as Stafford or Smith?? Hell if you want to, throw the '15 season in the mix and he STILL shouldn't make as much as either of those two guys.

Maybe that's the whole damn problem with this is the way the contracts and CBA is all structured. A guy with a year or two experience can expect..hell, DEMAND they get paid as an experienced person a year after they are locked in.

IMO, BA has offered what KC is worth. Maybe it seems like he is a year late and a few million short, KC shouldn't get equal or more than those two guys just simply based on the timing of it all. That just wreaks of desperation from our organization, ask Houston how that worked out for them. The threw away a lot of $$$ based on a desperation move for Brock. They were lucky to get out of it without eating more...

Redskins offered Kirk Cousins 5-year contract

This article says the Redskins offered KC a five year deal worth 100 million after this tag is complete. So a 6 year 124 million dollar deal. Why would anybody sign that? We will pay you market value this season but next season and the years after you get way below market value...and no mention of a signing bonus.

Redskins offered Kirk Cousins $24M in guarantees

Here is the one that mentions 16 mil a season. It was made at the combine and only had 24 mil guaranteed. I would pull out my dick and piss on that shit.

This was made at the 2016 combine and would have made him the 21st paid QB at that time.

Just trying to bring out a little levity.

Full disclosure no I dont think Kirk is the pope. I do not think he is above reproach. I do think alot of this still has to do with respect and loyalty.

SO before you blow a gasket and start with the name calling, take it for what it was, a semi light hearted joke, since in one way or another we are all wound tighter than a European speedo over this whole QB contract thing.

// End disclaimer

Ok, Here is what I could find on the average QB salary for the 2016 season. It is already known that KC and his camp were looking for $19-20 APY on a LTD after the 2015 season. We offered him $16, Who on this list would you say (at that time) KC should have been paid better than (his asking price of $19-20 APY)/ Keep in mind prior to the '16 season, KC has not even beat a team with a winning record in 26 starts.

OK... he was at 13 on that list with us paying him $20M on the tag. His ask was $20M per year, and with the guaranteed money to be right. And that still would have put him at 13th on the list.

The real question you should be asking is...

who at #14-23 does Kirk NOT deserve to make more than??

You could say Stafford, but aside from him... is there another name Im missing??

And this notion that the Cap Number is a floor in negotiating is ridiculous. I am in agreement with the FO on this one. He was already paid $20 mill on the tag last year, so why should his low number be $24 mill when he hasnt been paid that yet?
