He made excellent strides in spring training......he's gone from not being able to consistently throw strikes to not only throwing them consistently, but consistently being able to keep the ball low too......the next step is what you said, throwing his second and third pitches for strikes to first ball fastball hitters.....I'm betting it will come this year......
Yep. He surprised the heck out of me, that's for sure. I didn't think he would be able to do as well as he did.
Reyes looked like a complete fool his first AB against chapman. I think he knew that he was going to get a FB to start things off and timed it just right. It was a good pitch down and in, but Reyes was ready for the speed. Hopefully, like you said, he'll continue to improve on his ability/comfort to throw his secondary pitches for strikes and be able to throw them to open the count up.
The best pitches are able to throw those secondary pitches for strikes in hitter counts. It's how you are able to battle back from 3-0 or 3-1 counts without giving up big hits when the batter is sitting on the primary pitch.
