He made excellent strides in spring training......he's gone from not being able to consistently throw strikes to not only throwing them consistently, but consistently being able to keep the ball low too......the next step is what you said, throwing his second and third pitches for strikes to first ball fastball hitters.....I'm betting it will come this year......

Yep. He surprised the heck out of me, that's for sure. I didn't think he would be able to do as well as he did.

Reyes looked like a complete fool his first AB against chapman. I think he knew that he was going to get a FB to start things off and timed it just right. It was a good pitch down and in, but Reyes was ready for the speed. Hopefully, like you said, he'll continue to improve on his ability/comfort to throw his secondary pitches for strikes and be able to throw them to open the count up.

The best pitches are able to throw those secondary pitches for strikes in hitter counts. It's how you are able to battle back from 3-0 or 3-1 counts without giving up big hits when the batter is sitting on the primary pitch.

The dirty birds sans Albert and sans LaRussa come to town for three starting tonite......even under new management (Mike Matheny) and without Pujols they are still a formidable team, and probably the favorite in the Central division......they're coming in confident at 3-1 after winning the opening series in Milwaukee and ruining the Marlins' new stadium opener.....Homer Bailey will be under extreme pressure to perform from the get go this year, as the fans want Chapman in the rotation......you would think the Reds can get to Jake Westbrook, but they were befuddled in the Saturday game by journeyman Ricky Nolasco......like others here have said, the inconsistency of the offense is our biggest question mark this year.......

I angered the Bailey fans on Twitter who explained to me that he has improved every year and just needs time and confidence. Apparently, he's on the verge of greatness.

I was told fans expect too much out of Bailey. He's a solid pitcher, who could be a good middle of the rotation guy. I said that's why I used the word disappointing. He was supposed to be better than that, and was asked "who ever said he would be a star?" and that fans expected too much. Comedy goldmine.

I did run one of them off, who kept using the hashtag #onestart by adding the hashtag #onestartthisyearbutallkindsofcrappyonesinotheryears.

I'd would of rather kept Woods.

They pushed him as if he was the next Roger Clemens.......the only fair description of his career is disappointing......I'm not sure why he can't get people out, he has good stuff.....guess he's a head case.....

LOL! Bailey was the 7th overall pick the year he was drafted. That sort of pick is generally thought to have the potential to be a #1 or #2 guy in the rotation. Gotta love the homers.

BTW -- Remember when everyone was saying he was due to a breakout year due to his new shoulder flexibility? Good grief.
