Horrendous..... This is just a lousy hitting team with one or two pro hitters.

Outside of BP, Hanigan, and Votto...not many offer consistent AB's.

It is what it is. To think it's going to change is silly.

I know..... But I keep getting sucked into their season because their starting pitching is fantastic. When you are getting the production out of the staff that we have been over the past 2 months, you really should be one of the top ball clubs.

You are right about that.

The Reds need another professional hitter, and they shouldn't wait until the deadline to try and get one. There won't be a ton of guys available because of the glut of teams still in it due to the new WC spot.

I would push hard right now for Willingham. He's got 2 more years on his contract, too. He would be perfect hitting 4th between Votto and Bruce, and allow BP to go back to getting on base for Votto in the leadoff spot. Cozart would go back to #2 and thrive there, as he did earlier this season and last year.

Stubbs/Heisey combo could either be part of the trade for Willingham, and whoever doesn't end up going, can bat 7th and play CF.

There's no chance we get Willingham. And Ludwick has been great over the last month and should improve to hi snormal production. He'll hit .260-.270 and mash. He should be hitting 4th and I suspect he will be here very shortly.

Shane Victorino is the guy they need to go and get.

Rolen back in the lineup the day before the ASB, even though Frazier is raking and almost nobody else is.......

And this surprises you?

Dusty got mad when reporters asked about why Rolen was playing.

"He's got to play sometime"

No, Dusty, actually, he doesn't.

At least this rotation is really starting to take shape. Let's hope they can keep this up the 2nd half of the year.

Not surprised, just incredibly annoyed.....the rotation is really solid, there's really not a weakness among them....if they can stay healthy all year, we'll be in the hunt to the finish.....Rolen has to go.....he should be a late inning defensive replacement and maybe an occasional pinch hitter the rest of the year.....Dusty seems to be the only man on the planet who doesn't realize he's through............

Well, that is where being a "players manager" really hurts him. He wants to try and keep everyone happy. Sometimes, you just have to be the bad guy. That's why you're the manager, not their friend.

Bench guys are bench guys for a reason. I have no issue with giving them spot starts. But saying that Cairo needs to play because he needs to get his bat hot is flat out dumb. The only platooning that should be going on is Heisey and Ludwick in LF, and Heisey and Stubbs in CF (before his slump, Stubbs was hitting .280 in the #2 spot in the order).

But, to sit Frazier for Rolen at this point would be like sitting BP or Votto for Cairo or Valdez to get some playing time. Frazier is so much better than Rolen at this point, you can't possibly consider sitting him twice a week just because you want Rolen to play. He's done as a starter. His only hope is that coming off the bench will allow his shoulder the kind of rest needed to give good AB's once a game, and as you said, be a late inning replacement if needed.

Terrible job by MLB to have back-to-back days of no baseball. Now would have been a great time to show the futures games, or minor league all-stars, or even do the HOF induction. But to leave everything open for two whole days, when they could be pushing more of their product instead of trying to jam everythign into 2 days all going on at the same time (Futures/Baseball games) is a bad move.

Second half starts with the dirty birds.....good chance for Latos to exorcise more demons....Pirates starting at Milw vs the almost unbeatable (at home) Grienke....good chance to reclaim first and deal the Cards a blow.....

Indeed.

Reds have a 10 game home stand, I believe, to start the 2nd half. They have to come out swinging (literally and figuratively) as the Pirates play 19 games against teams below .500.

I guess a bright note is...the Pirates have played about as good as they can play in the 1st half and only have a 1 game lead. The Reds haven't really been impressive, and could still hit a nice stride where they pile up a lot of wins now that the pitching has finally started to come along with Leake and Latos dealing.

Teams are going to start pitching around mccutchen (sp). Eventually, that is going to hurt them, as they don't have anyone else on that roster that scares opposing pitchers. Votto has been getting this treatment for 3 years. Reds are adept at handling this, even if they don't always fair as well as we would like.

Also, I don't see AJ continuing to pitch the way he has.

1 run may be too much to overcome with the way this team hits.
