Hard to believe they've hit seven homers over the last two games, and Votto and Bruce have none of them.....

Morning blue....I'm afraid we're going to have to put up with inconsistent offense all year....just too many guys on this team are up and down....at least they can pitch, and if Latos and Leake can build on their last starts the pitching can be among the best in the league....Latos just needs to trust his stuff and challenge the hitters every time he goes out there.....Atlanta is a good hitting team, but Leake and Latos can both be good enough to shut them down, evidently.....

Good morning gentlemen..... It's nice to see this team playing ball like they should. Latos looked confident last night - He has a hell of an arm so it's good to see him use it.

Chapman is just plain sick..... We need to start that kid. Can you imagine a top three of Cueto, Latos, and Chapman? Let Bronson eat innings as a 4th option, pitch Bailey in the 5 hole and move Leake to long relief. Maybe one of you stat monkeys can tell me why this wouldn't work.

It would work, as soon as the closer situation is resolved.....I have been wanting Chapman to start all along, but now it's evident he is really needed to close probably for the rest of this year......it's a really good feeling to have a lead going to the ninth inning and see him warming up to finish the game......

I heard during the game that he was pretty happy with his role right now.But they did say that the reds would like to put him in the starting rotation later in the season.I guess we'll have to waite and see!

Closers are ove-rated. He either needs to be availble in the 6-9th innings when outs are most needed (such as 2 on and 1out or bases loaded) to escape an inning when you really need a K or weak hit ball...

If they are going to just use him in the 9th only to get 3 outs when a "save" situation arises...they should just start working on him being a starter. Using him only in 1 specific inning when the "situation" calls for a "save" is a total and complete waste of his talent.

I still believe the closer is an important role, especially after watching Marshall blow one on a three run homer and then have to be rescued twice since.....Marshall is fine as a set up man or to pitch to left handed hitters, but closers need to be either overpowering or have a dynamic out pitch such as Arredondo's splitter....I'm happy to have Chappy there for now, but I agree he needs to start as soon as is feasible....unfortunately moving him now would leave too big a hole in the pen imo......if Masset came back and was effective, then maybe they could move Arredondo or Ondrusek into the closer role and start stretching Chappy out to start, but I'm starting to think Masset eventually is headed for rotator cuff surgery....."inflammation" is a sketchy diagnosis at best.....

As long as he continues to use that long looping swing (especially with 2-strikes) he's going to be prone to these slumps. Same goes with Stubbs.

With Stubbs, I would love to see him tuck his back elbow in more, and really just compact his swing so that he can just make more contact. Also, it would really help if he started swinging at good pitches early in the count. Last night is a great example:
First pitch fastball right down the middle; take. Second pitch was a slider that was about belt high, and on the outside corner; take. Now he's down 0-2. He did manage to get the count to 2-2, but then swung through strike 3.

I know you want hitters to work the pitcher, but if the first pitch you see is down the middle...take a hack. It might be the best pitch you are going to get, especially when pitchers know that eventually you are going to chase crappy pitches. The only hitter on this team that gets a pass on not swinging at a really good first or second pitch strike is Votto because he can hit with 2 strikes.
