It was very much the same movie, except they did a better job of showing how The Thing came to be (when they uncovered the spaceship).

If you look at it from the standpoint that it's a remake, it would be very weak compared to the original. As a prequel, I thought it was very good. But I knew it was a prequel going in (read about it), so I didn't have the same expectations as you, RSG.
