1 win in their last 10 games with 5 straight losses.
And, no real moves to do anything about it.

Sewald had gotten the first 19 batters out this year until tonight. Then single, single, 3 Run Homer. All that good luck of last year has faded fast. That is why we needed to over spend and not under spend this year. We needed overwhelming talent to compete. We failed.

Mariners are 22nd in Hard Hit Rate but 13th in Barrel Rate. So we barrel up but are just wimps?
Why balls die 20 feet from the warning track. Barrel up, no oomph behind it.

I have been trying to tell people this for 44 years...lol.
I blame Lou. When I was a kid we could walk up to the ticket booth at game time and buy seats pretty much anywhere. Sit right above the dugout, down the line for easier foul balls, or even behind the plate. It never really sold out. San Diego chicken as a mascot for a short time, some bad hot dogs, and the odd win here or there. We knew we sucked and had no chance of doing great things.

Then Lou gave us a taste, we got a little spoiled, and snapped back to reality hard for the last 21 years.

Kids today I guess feel more or less like we did in the late 70's/80's as they have never seen winning baseball in person.

It is pretty hard to believe that the Mariners current streak of futility is longer than the one from their inception to their first playoff appearance. And that includes a playoff structure that has expanded several times and they still can't make it.

It's almost like you have to work hard at not even accidentally getting into the playoffs at some point.

For sure some of the players are to blame, but it's ownership and management that year after futile year keeps this steak alive.

We don't manage what talent we do have very well and they don't just flood us with talent to overcome that lack of leadership.
