Not a good sign when the umpire misses the call on the very first pitch to us.

Welcome to the big leagues kid. Even if you have a solid game, you won't get run support. Because Mariners.
I'm surprised Tampa's having the same problems today, to be honest.

Debut jitters? WHAT debut jitters?

You shouldn't be able to tag someone out with laces on a glove. why not give everyone 2 foot laces and tag people out before they get even near the base then.

"A TAG is the action of a fielder in touching a base with his body
while holding the ball securely and firmly in his hand or glove; or touching
a runner with the ball, or with his hand or glove holding the ball (not
including hanging laces alone
), while holding the ball securely and
firmly in his hand or glove."

MLB rules glove laces no longer apply for tags

So yeah screwed by the replay system again.

And with the call-up of Kirby, we have used up all our prospect cards for 2022. No other reinforcements available this year at least none of high expectations. I know I am a broken record, but if you sign guys and things go south you can bring up hope to replace them even if it is for a few weeks. But when you rely on hope and don't sign guys and the hopeful disappoint, there is no-one coming to your rescue and that scares me because it makes GM's like Dipoto skittish and he could do something real stupid like deal guys for rentals at the deadline. No rentals!
Haniger and Lewis are both guys that can spark the batting on this team and allow roster coverage to send Kelenic and others down to get work. Won't fix all of their issues, but would improve the team enough to not have this type of stretch.

Thus becoming the first Mariner EVER to have six scoreless innings in his debut.

It's not often we make team history for all the RIGHT reasons.

Yep, game over

But not without its upside in Kirby's start.

Thanks for posting this.

After I heard he was called out because the laces touched him, I told my friend that someone could make a lot of money selling infielder gloves with long feathers attached to them if that's the case.

Shame that we might lose after that incredible performance by Kirby.

He got behind in a number of counts and always worked himself back and didn't even give up a walk. Kirby has next level stuff. Next step is to see if MLB hitters are able to adjust to it.

Welcome to Seattle, George Kirby!

You can make history on the mound and still not get the win.

Bravo to him though. I hope I'm not reading too much into merely 6 innings of pitches, but he looked incredible.

Not only does Kirby have major league talent, looks like he has major league composure. 1st game in the big leagues, and he gives a rock solid outing. Unfazed facing some of the best hitters in the world. Great effort today!

The kid pitched an absolute gem.

Mariners have to pull at a win in this game.

Skunk head swinging for the fences late min the game when a base hit would do.

Kelenic's bat does not leave his shoulder and he is rung up strike 3 late in the game ( never swung at any of the 3 called strikes - WTF over )

still knotted up at 1 ... we need to manufacture a winning run

I wouldn't say you were "reading too much into" anything, really, since we don't normally let a newcomer last six innings in the first place.

At least, not to recent memory...then again, a performance like that is hard to come by around here.

My guess is Kirby was pulled because he was doing well and they wanted to end his first start on a high note before the wheels fell off.

Nice to see the M's get a win in a game they probably shouldda lost, but still was a tough one to watch at least on offense. Not enjoyable seeing your team get shut down by a guy who got rocked in his only other start of the season. Was good to see Kirby do well though.
