I see both sides In all of this. Here are some thoughts based on what you have said.

JD was still instrumental when we signed Semien and Seager.

It was time for JD to go when he was fired so I am not sure I would make a decision to keep CY just because he co.pares favorably to JD.

The team showed some offensive ineptness for large chunks of last year as well.
I wouldn't make a decision to keep him just based on him being better than JD, but based on the fact that he has shown some significant positives to go with some of those legitimate negatives (along with being one season separated from winning it all) I think there is good reason to show some patience.
If the same flaws persist and the team has another bad season in 2025, then raising the question of maybe moving on from CY is absolutely fair game.
Bottom line, IMO, is he has been somewhat of a mixed bag but along the way the team did win a Championship, and that can't be discounted, either.
I'm just saying a wait-and-see approach is wise at the moment.

No doubt some of the moves he's hade have been head scratchers.
That said, do you honestly believe guys like Seager, Semien and Eovaldi come to Texas if JD had still been solo calling the shots?
CY was able to sell those guys on the vision the team had for the future. The end results being a WS win. At the end of the day, that's the end goal.
Now, the offense underperforming this year has been a huge disappointment, but outside of essentially swapping Garver for Langford, the offensive lineup going into the season (before injuries) was essentially the same as the one that had just won a title.
Guess what I'm saying is this: Yes, he's got some real flaws - getting too attached to scrub vets like Grossman/Jankowski and not putting enough resources into the bullpen - but his strengths - having the ability to land big-time free agents and recognizing the value of great starting pitching (unlike JD) - are just as big.
He already showed some improvement of his weaknesses re: bullpen last year by going out and signing Yates and Robertson.
Did they come to Texas because of CY or the money. Because it’s almost always about the money. Yates and Robertson were one year deals. Both are probably gone after the season, with the seasons that they have had. Will probably get more money somewhere else. And if CY wanted to keep them, why not give them an extension. CY has never been high on spending on the bullpen. I didn’t even mention the signing of Kninzer, he was worst then terrible. Keeping him and Heim on the roster, when they both having bad years was on him. Not wanting to give Huff a chance to see what he can do is a mystery.

Should have been a one year extension. And if he has a repeat of this season, should be gone.

He may have not wanted only a one year extension in the negotiations. You win a WS and I would think you have more bargaining power. From an operations standpoint the multi-year extension doesn’t really matter because he can be fired at any time. Of course the owners would have to pay him off.

Someone on twitter mentioned Leiter possibly following deGrom tonight if he isn't able to go very deep into the game.
Don't like that. Keep Leiter in the rotation.

I don't imagine deGrom makes it past the 4th inning, or maybe a couple of batters in the 5th.

Walcott already has 2 hits and a walk tonight and it is just the 6th inning.

There is still no word on the details of the new contract for CY. I guess the national media will have to break that part of the news.

From Evan Grant:

This season can't end soon enough for poor Jonah Heim, who is now in a 1 for 27, has seen his OPS slip to .590 and has been unsuccessful on gunning down runners in 38 of last 41 attempts dating back to the All-Star Break

They are going to get 5.1 innings out of the pen tonight. That might be a problem.

Heim has to be the worst catcher in baseball right now. Can’t hit and the Mariners have running wild against him in this series.

Unless there is a really, really good reason why he has fallen off a cliff and we don't know about it, he should not be the starting catcher next year. If not Huff, then we need to trade for someone or sign a catcher.

Damn shame the Rangers lost this one. Degrom had a nice little outing. Usually a 4 run lead against the Mariners going into the 7th means automatic victory.
I am ok with Robertson being a fa and not coming back next year. 8 blown holds is a bit much and he turns 40 next year.
Would like to see CY acquire a couple of younger relievers in the offseason.Hopefully Sborz comes back healthy along with a couple of young pitchers getting promoted from RR or Frisco.

Well Robertson is human. I was a little surprised by the 8 blown saves but look what he did to the top of Dodgers lineup 2 nights in a row on the road. Not many could do that. Plus he’s a good guy to have in the playoffs with his experience. There’s a mutual option out there if he wants to stay with the club next year and CY agrees to it. Robertson doesn’t have an agent and likes CY. I don’t know what will happen though.
