He is not that much of an upgrade to me from Leon. I was at 2 games this year and in both Gray pitched so I saw Leon and Hedges. Leon saved a run with a great stop on a pitch in the dirt. Hedges has a better arm. But his bat was so late through the zone as I would just keep throwing fastballs. The guy will never catch up to it. So I agree. No need for him if Heim is back.Whatever each of us wants, it has never appeared the Rangers have ever been interested in keeping a defense-only catcher. Acquiring Hedges was only done because of Heim suddenly becoming incapacitated for what could have been long term.
Hedges hasn't revealed anything of an unexpected nature since being acquired. Therefore, I don't think they will change their minds. I think he is gone when Heim proves he is close to his old self.
Keeping two catcher-only bench players, when you only have 4 bench players, is really hard to do without shorting yourself significantly on your bench.
