"Understand this: Immigration is a dicey subject right now, particularly for those of Cuban descent. At this point, Julio Pablo Martinez was granted a one-time entry visa, which he used in February to work out for Miami and the New York Yankees. My understanding is this: He will spend the next two months in the extended spring training program in the Dominican Republic. When that season begins, he will play there for a short period of time, which should, I believe qualify him for a work visa. At that point, he will then be able to re-enter the U.S. and he will join a minor league team, but it will be either a short-season club or a Class A team. I think the current system sets his development back some, but not permanently."

Also, Evan believes that Kela and Minor would be the most attractive trade deadline targets by other teams. He thinks Beltre and Hamels most likely places to be traded to would be the Yankees and the Dodgers, respectively.

I have heard either High A or AA. I am not sure how long it will be before he is ready to start playing since he hasn't played in a while. Taveras is at Down East right now so Martinez may be headed to Frisco.

I hope Minor pitches well enough to be considered a good chip. But if we're building for the future I wonder about the wisdom of moving a 25 year old Kela.

Obviously we'd all like to see both of these guys. But in my gut, I think Archer is the only real possibility. Kershaw seems like the kind of guy who would really like to retire, go to the Hall, and do it in one uniform. Perhaps I'm wrong on this though.

why in the world would JD and the owners do something like that? we have no plans to even compete for x number of years so why do anything?
