There are just too many teams not willing to sell at this point.

That third WC in each league really messes the deadline up.

With Bellinger off the market, the pickings are pretty slim for hitters who would represent a definite upgrade over Grossman/Garver/Huff/Smith. Here’s who I might… might… consider:

Eloy Jimenez
Tyler O Neill
CJ Cron
Andrew McCutchen

Pretty mediocre list. There are just too many teams not willing to sell at this point. And the sellers don’t have anybody good they’re willing to part with.

True, but right now they’re also serving as DH. We can’t have that. One will be in the lineup, but we need to prevent both.

Agreed but we need to concentrate on pitching first, second and third

Who do you put there? Snell is really tough on LH batters so it can’t be be Jankowski or Smith and Duran just can’t hit so unfortunately it doesn’t much else

Rather not see him at all but putting him in the bottom of the order would make it really bad. You would have Garver, Huff and Grossman

I know we all complain about the likes of Grossman and Garver, but our “good” hitters are every bit to blame, if not more so, for our recent lack of offense than the weaker hitters.

Marcus Semien just makes weak contact almost every at-bat, and Adolis has fallen off a cliff. He used to be a real threat with men on base. Now he’s just a clueless strikeout machine. And then Josh Jung still hasn’t learned how to have a proper at-bat. 3 pitch strikeout with men on base. Pathetic.

Blue Jays just traded for Hicks form the Cards

The Cardinals have begun their selloff by trading right-hander Jordan Hicks to the Blue Jays, per Craig Mish of the Miami Herald. The return headed back to St. Louis is not currently known. Hicks had previously been reported to be discussing an extensionwith the Cardinals ahead of the trade deadline on August 1, though those discussions seemingly stalled out earlier in the week.

Toronto got him for 2 low-level prospects with not good stats (Kloffenstein & Robberse). Wonder what we offered
