The happiest people in the world were the White Sox management and their fans when they didn't have to pay him his $13 mil.

Ya know, from what I read LaRoche is happy too. So this was, in hind sight, a win-win, although it sure didn't look like it for either party at the time.

Re shedding $. If we could move Fielder that is the move to make. I would like more power in that part of the lineup and DH is so easy to give a vet a 1/2 day off. Esp if there is a need for Choo or Beltre
Agree but would you take him for 5 yrs at 14mil per? I think we can all agree on moving him. It's the money and his return.

I understand. But ya know what? That was a fucked up contract, but it was only one year more. Big difference.

How many examples you want? Sandoval at 19mil/yr? Matt Holiday at 17mil/yr? Brian McCann at $17m/yr?

Exactly...we think they're bad contracts and yes they probably are but we need to realize that at this point it's what the market is so they're getting what the market is dictating.

OK....fine.

But I'm going to stick with "no one is going to take Fielder for 5 more years at $14 mil each."

We'll see.

Well we will have to eat money and/or move a prospect. I think we have limited spots and talent on the way that is better then Prince. I thought the original trade was good but I think he has lost more power/strengththan I envisioned. Lim has been said even a guy like Rua has suffered from being blocked and we have more on the pipeline

Rua has been blocked more by Banister's insistence of playing a guy who "by our own design" will only be here for this season IMO. Makes no sense.

And I agree with ya on the pipeline/prospect vs eating salary. Very good point.

But here's what I see happening with Prince as a player/hitter. (1) He and Mt Everest have the same time going 90 feet. (2) His power numbers are decreasing. (3) He is strictly a DH. (4) I can see him not even being a ML player for the last 2 years of his contract. So that $14 mil a year, would become $23 mil a year under this scenario.

I am just being too much of a hard-ass on Prince? Swear, not trying to be. And I sincerely appreciate the fact he carried the entire club for the first half of last season.

So let's say Elvis continues to build on his improvement from the second half of last season and has a solid season this year. I obviously do not expect him to hit .351 the rest of the year. But let's say he posts a line similar to this:

.275/.355/.370/8HR/65RBI/15 steals

Let's say his defensive numbers improve over all to where he cuts his errors down to say 15 from 22 last year. Do you open up the possibility of seeing what you can get for Profar, or do you still look to move Elvis if you can? Keep in mind the chemistry between he, Beltre, and Odor, and that he's one of the vets the youngsters like Brinson, Mazara, and Gallo will be looking at to show them the ropes?
This is a good question. There is much to say about team chemistry. Profar is an unknown because of his missing 2 seasons but if he plays to what his potential is I would still like to keep him. But he may have to play a different position as I cannot see the Rangers getting rid of Andrus. This was the same problem the Rangers had a few years ago when they thought Profar was going to take over 2nd and the Kinsler-Prince move was made. The answer to this is not an easy one.

I'm probably Too far south of most people on this board to be hosting any pizza parties.

I hope this long lay off helps Desmond. The guy couldn't be doing much worse at the plate. Should be going up from here.

As far as which contract/contracts we trade off I think we just have to see who fits in with our future and if someone doesn't then make the best trade that you can. I still think it might be wise to trade Fielder and/or Choo before they fall off a cliff production-wise. Now, maybe some might suggest that Prince already has, but it is way too early to know that and if he has then you need to discard him anyway. Sure you will have to eat some salary, but then you have a lot of very cheap players either here now or coming up very soon to offset the contracts that you trade away and have to eat a part of.

This is why JD gets paid the big bucks. Glad I don't have this on my plate
