Providing Profar works out, trading EA would be my choice to trade if we can shed dollars

You'd prefer to trade Elvis over Fielder? Why?

A decent ss is far more attractive than a DH that appears to be giving way to time

Yes, but depending on how Fielder ages may depend on whether we end up completely on the hook for a sunk cost. Elvis will continue to provide value for the foreseeable future.

I think Fielder would be much less attractive as a DH/1b at his salary than Elvis. SS is imo much more attractive.

What kind of value do you see Fielder giving us going forward? Especially with Beltre needing more time at DH going forward? My concern is whether Fielder just craters and we're left on the hook for 18m/yr versus 4-5m/yr.

I see and agree with your concern. I have a concern that we may not get much interest in Fielder if any at his salary

We wouldn't be pitching him at his whole salary. We'd be offering to eat some salary which I believe would bring his cost to around 14m/yr.

Keep in mind the chemistry between he, Beltre, and Odor, and that he's one of the vets the youngsters like Brinson, Mazara, and Gallo will be looking at to show them the ropes?

On this subject, Profar is considered a terrific leader.

There was an article several years ago about him playing at one of the lower minor league levels or winter ball (forget which) about how much respect he commanded despite him being the youngest guy on the team. You remember this?

But you're point is well taken. I'd just have a different opinion if he was taking over Beltre, but not EA.

You can trade any contract. It's just going to come down to how much are you willing to throw in. When we got Fielder we kinda knew what we were in for. He had 7 years left but realistically probably only expected 3-4 years of pretty decent/solid production. And after that you'd just eat it up because your intention was competing in the now which is still the case.

He's a terrific leader, but he's not a veteran presence.

That leaves us on the hook for $18m/yr. eating approximately $4m/yr puts his cost to other teams at $14m/yr. If he shows he can perform at a good level I think that's very doable.

Like I said recently, I can't imagine a team wanting Fielder, even if he starts performing at a good level, for $14 mil for 5 more years.

It all depends on circumstance. Anybody will take Fielder but how much will it cost them. Yes if Texas doesn't eat salary then no probably not but as I said in a previous post everything as a price to it.

Thank you. We were one of those who lost a son due to flood waters.

So sorry DT. I have one son and 4 girls. Losing a son must be feeling like losing your right arm. God bless you and yours

Really? Have you paid attention to what contracts are doing now? Adam freaking LaRoche was going to make $13mil this year.

The happiest people in the world were the White Sox management and their fans when they didn't have to pay him his $13 mil.

The number romeo allowed was $14 mil per. So he set the bar at $70 million over the next 5 years.

I understand. But ya know what? That was a fucked up contract, but it was only one year more. Big difference.

Re shedding $. If we could move Fielder that is the move to make. I would like more power in that part of the lineup and DH is so easy to give a vet a 1/2 day off. Esp if there is a need for Choo or Beltre
