Missed the early part of this one but got in about the 2nd inning. My 6 yr old son had his first fall LL game tonight, and got his first hit off of live pitching. Roped a line drive off the glove of the 3rd baseman and it went for a double. Proud moment for an old Dad.

AJ it appears couldn't throw strikes. Glad NMart was able to come in and bail us out. Good to see another W and the Magic # at 2 for now.
Other than Deik our RPs did their job. Some real tight spots which could have turned bad for us but Nick and Schep stepped up.

Rangers' Magic Numbers after tonight (to "eliminate" each):

Seattle: 1
Houston: 2
Boston: 9
Cleveland: 10

Also, I want to see us clinch the AL West with a win, not a Houston loss. It's so much more fun to see the players mob the mound and celebrate after the 3rd strike in the 9th knowing they've just won the division rather than watching them calmly going into the clubhouse and waiting to learn they've clinched two hours later on tv.

Houston loss day game today and win tonight = celebration on field. Otherwise may even be on off day

I actually do not want to see the Astros. I never have a good feeling of playing a team in the playoffs that you have seen a lot of and had success against. For some reason all the pressure is on the team who previously had success and it seems to show.

I heard some talk on the radio this morning about how the bullpen should be set up from top to bottom in the postseason. I like it this way if Barnette comes back healthy.

Dyson, Bush, Scheppers, Barnette, Diekman, Claudio, Kela, and one of the starters for the long man. If Jeffress makes it back then possibly he bumps Kela if Kela doesn't get things straightened out between now and then. If Kela is lights out between now and then I might even move him up a few spots. I might even consider just going with 7 guys in the pen and an extra guy on the bench. Then it would probably be a decision between DeShields or an 8th guy in the pen.

Use Diekman as a last resort.

That is what I was going to say. Claudio is head and shoulders ahead of Diekman. Too many people only look at velocity.

True. Claudio has a better pitch selection and better control painting without giving up so many walks imo

I was hoping some semblance of the better Diekman would show up over the last few games. In his first 32 appearances this season he only gave up runs in 2 of those so I was trying to balance his recent demise with his not too distant history.

Agree. He was very good in the beginning as you say. But he is so inconsistent. Can you imagine bringing him into a bases loaded and 1 out situation like we did with Claudio? It drives me crazy to have a guy come in and not throw strikes and especially to left handers. Now if he is on he will be gold but that is the problem.

Isn't it amazing how the trust factor has been completely flipped for both of those guys. It is unreal.
