Texas Rangers starter Jon Gray threw a bullpen session on Monday and will throw another on Wednesday according to manager Bruce Bochy, and could rejoin the Rangers’ starting rotation on Sunday vs. the San Francisco Giants. Fellow sidelined starter Max Scherzer faced hitters on Tuesday and, if he recovery goes fine, could be headed for a rehab assignment.

Gray threw 40-50 pitches in a two-inning bullpen session on Monday and participated in fielding drills, and said that he felt “no issues” with his groin on Tuesday. He was placed on the 15-day injured list on May 23 with a right groin strain.

“I felt really good moving around, feeling athletic,” said Gray, who had a 2.21 ERA in 10 starts before his placement on the injured list. “It was a big day, but it was a lot of fun, it felt good to start moving again.”

Scherzer pitched a live bullpen session on Tuesday and threw 40 pitches with an up-and-down in between.
