in all fairness, a mid tier bat would be a middle of the order bat in this lineup
If that is all they want it could be argued they already have that. I think he means one meant for a much better team than we have now.

Okay, help me out here. I am trying to think of the GMs in our history.

Dan O'Brien
Eddie Robinson
Tom Grieve
John Hart
Jon Daniels
Chris Young

I am sure I am missing one or two other short term guys. Maybe one before O'Brien and maybe one more.

Davis has now cleared the way for Young to try and get the manager he wants. My guess it’s not going to be an on the job training kind of guy but a successful veteran manager.

Rat Davis did state that two frontline starters and a middle of the lineup bat would be the targets this offseason.
then we will see a number of our top prospects on the trading block this off-season especially pitching. with Gray with 3 years left on his contract if we sign 2 SP's like Perez and Rodon then we will have a logjam of SP's like Leiter, Winn, Ragans, O. White, Rocker. Dunning, Otto, Porter, Vanasco, Kelly, Roby, Bradford, etc so we will have to package them into trades and be satisfied in seeing some of them facing us on other teams. same is true with some of our positional players.

Well, I was using my faulty memory and was hoping others would too, but I see where that got me.
It’s more fun that way

I think he specifically said those were free agent targets, but that's going off of faulty memory

i read that but he said 2 starting free agents and a middle of the order batter, but if we did say sign Perez and Rodon then our SP rotation would be Gray, Perez, Rodon, ? and ? for a minimum of 3 years which would slow advancement of prospect SP to a crawl which usually means trading away prospects

Gray/Perez/Rodon leaves two open spots. We don't have any SP prospects forcing their way into the rotation at the moment. Those two open spots can be filled with guys that are replaceable when the prospects are ready.

On MLB's new top 30 Rangers prospects there was a name on there that I didn't know anything about. He is Gleider Figuereo. Here is what they had to say about him. He was ranked 22nd.

Scouting grades: Hit: 50 | Power: 50 | Run: 45 | Arm: 60 | Field: 45 | Overall: 45

Right-hander Victor Figuereo topped out in short-season ball with the Rangers in the early 2000s, but his son looks destined for bigger and better things in Texas. Signed for $80,000 out of the Dominican Republic in 2021, Gleider transformed his body after a decent pro debut. Still just 18, he has wowed scouts as one of the top sluggers in the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League this summer.

The Rangers liked Figuereo's sweet left-handed stroke and bat-to-ball skills when they signed him. He displayed the aptitude to drive balls in the air as soon as he arrived in pro ball, and now that he has added significant strength to go with his bat speed, he's crushing balls. He shows some feel for the strike zone, and while he may need to moderate his aggressive approach against more advanced pitchers, he has the upside of a .275 hitter with 25 homers per season.

It's unclear whether Figurero will remain at third base. He has fringy speed, decent range and plus am strength but needs to improve his consistency and throwing accuracy at the hot corner. Second base, left field and first base are other potential options, and his bat may profile well at all of them.

No, I checked that when I went back. He was answering a question that mentioned offseason acquisitions, and not specifically free agents.
