he's serviceable as a backup, but he is a bit error prone.

You do realize that with that May stats he is still only batting .211 for the season but my point was playing time especially when Duran and even Garver return. Duran is going to get the majority of playing time at DH or LF so Josh will maybe get 1 start every week or 2 and sit on the bench the rest of the time.

He’s played 4 positions (SS, 2B, 3B & LF)

Smith is a good utility player / back up / fill in. I don’t think he’s every day starter material tho.
